Canelo will handle Munguia fairly easily I think. "Ageing" a boxer is a double edged sword. Get them too old to be a problem, or too young and inexperienced. Munguia is the latter.

 

Yeah.. so much for all of the PBC is broke talk. They just had to draw a line in the sand and not give Canelo ridiculous paydays for fighting horrible opposition.

Amazon Prime isn't 'overpaying' for it. They are just distributing it, like they distribute everything (movies, products, etc.).

Amazon Prime Video signed a deal with PBC to distribute its content.

Amazon Video can offer the PPV stream in nearly every country around the world.

Showtime could only offer PBC fights on PPV in the US and some US territories.

It's a big deal with the potential of selling "millions" of PPVs (as opposed to hundreds of thousands) -since they'll be available in a lot of countries - each time out.

The A-side guys in these first Amazon Prime Video PPvs - namely Tank Davis, Benavidez and Tszyu - could become massive PPV stars this year (compared to fighters boxing for other promoters) depending on how the global sales for these first events go.

Canelo could even break his own personal PPV record set with Floyd Mayweather ... just because of how many locations around the world it'll be available to buy.

You no longer just count US PPV buys with a deal like this. You have to count all the buys in all the countries where they're available on Prime.

I was thinking this might be on just Amazon Prime and not on PPV, hence the overpay part of my comment.

DAZN has taken the same approach. Canelo-Golovkin under performed in the US market, but thanks to it being a PPV overseas, they managed to crack the 1 million buy rate. Which made the event a success despite lack of interest from the fans.

 

Does anyone know if this will be in Amazon Prime worldwide, or are the rights for Mexico and other countries still being sold to other TV outlets, like it was the case with Canelo's previous fights?

 

Let's not forget Munguia ducked Janibek too. He was given a chance to fight for the title, and he they passed multiple times.

 

Don't know specifically about Mexico, because Canelo recently had a press conference saying his fight wouldn't be on PPV there. However, all the other fights will be sold in Mexico on PPV thru Amazon Prime Video, as well as in the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, and everywhere else Amazon Prime Video is available (which is most countries).

The days of farming it out to other distributors, as far as PBC is concerned, is over. PBC has its one lone global distributor.
