I am reading a book about sinuses. The doctor is considered the doctor that doctors use. The book claims that breathing through your nose ONLY is the correct way. Basically breathing through your nose and mouth is wrong. Also breathing through the mouth only is wrong. He says that your oxygen temperature and humidity level has to be the same as body temperature and humidity level before the oxygen will enter the blood vessels that attach to the lungs. Once the oxygen enters the blood vessels it can then be transported to your heart. The heart will disperse the oxygen to the organs. According to the book breathing through the nose is the correct way to breath because the system to get your oxygen to the certain temperture and humidy level can only be accomplished by breathing through the nose. This is because your nose is setup to humidify and change temperature of the oxygen by routing through certain processes. I don't want to explain the process because it’s very boring and complex. You see a lot of boxers and MMA breathing through the mouth and nose. You even see a lot of MMA use the single piece mouth guard to be able to get in more air. I had a MMA teacher once tell me that double mouth guard with an air hole wasn't enough to breath through. My boxing coaches tell me the opposite. I need to be breathing through my nose only. Any comments?
ya, i always try to only breathe through my nose. that's what i was taught. only time i do breathe through my mouth is to get a big gasp of air in my lungs
When your boxing you never want to have your mouth open at all, your more prone to getting knocked out and possibly having your jaw broken as well. Now if your lifting weights or that its completely different, say your bench pressing, you want to breath through your nose as your setting the weight down to your chest, as you push the weight off your chest you want to breath out through your mouth.
Yes but according to my notes youre wasting valuable time taking a deep gasp if you use the mouth. If you take a gasp of air through your mouth you might be replacing oxygen that has been filtered with oxygen that is the wrong temperature and wrong humidity.
I don't care about any of your points. I would like to know why people tend to use the mouth when breathing. In the later rounds in a fight people tend to huff and puff using the mouth and nose. Does it bring any value to try and breath through the mouth? I don't care about a broken jaw or weight lifting.
It could be a number of reasons, one being if a fighter broke his nose and cant breath properly through it, he would need to open his mouth to get enough air in. Yes, to answer your question it does help to get more air in your lungs by getting air through both your nose and your mouth.
Yeah I know you can get more air in the lungs by using the nose and mouth. Does it help your performance if you get a lot of air that has been partially filtered or a little air fully filtered? I say if you breath through your nose 100 percent of the time, even while doing the large gasp, you will be getting air that is closer to your body temperature/humidy level. This might give you better performance.
wel if you breath through your nose you get maybe 50 per cent of what you get when you breath through your mouth, when you in the later rounds, your muscles will have started to tire. as oxygen is needed to transport pcr to the muscles for dissociation the more oxygen that is delivered the more energy you have or the less tired your muscles will feel.
Yes most people will agree with you that you need more oxygen in later rounds. What if you trained you body to only use 50 percent of thair all the time. It might improve your performance.
The only reason many athlete breath thru their mouth , is when fatigue start to make its way thru the muscles, and the required amount of oxygen to sendot the muscle is required to increase and breathing thru the nose is not quite bringing this amount... If you watch closely the correct way to breath is slow big breathing and release the same way thru the mouth... Remember bigger muscles required more oxygen..slick efficient muscles, required less oxygen....therefore in boxing big bulky muscles is a nono
he is correct... as a former pro-athlete and current physiotherapist, i have decent credentials on this topic.... aside from boxing, in stamina sports, BREATHE THROUGH YOUR MOUTH!!! IT IS A MUCH BIGGER PASSAGE WAY!!!! the doctor you mentioned was most likely referring to normal breathing, not during intense exercise. as for boxing, the mouthpiece and the requirement to keep the jaw shut CAN be a problem... some jaw alignments allow some to be able to keep the jaw shut with a mouthpiece and still get sufficient air in and out that still beats nose breathing (that is the case for me). others may find it harder to do so..but it is essential to try this method. further, ALWAYS TRAIN WITH YOUR MOUTHPIECE; it is a big part of your fighting gear, and training should simulate the real fight. and it will improve your ability to breath at max ability with the mouthpiece. BUT.... breath through the mouth during exercise at all times if possible. this is not rocket science; the passage way to and from the lungs is both bigger and shorter.!!!!
Not that I don’t have any respect for physical therapy or physiotherapist but it is widely known that less than 5 percent in the field actually review scientific literature to make decisions about patients. In fact, it is know that physical therapy or physiotherapist use techniques with no scientific support. http://breathing.com/articles/nose-breathing.htm The people with the most experience in the scientific world of breathing are saying that you need to breathe through your nose.
