These aren't the words of someone hoping to remain employed. I wonder if Breland already knows he's out.

Knowing Wilder and his team they're likely to want to find a scapegoat rather than manning up and actually addressing the issue that needs to be addressed. Breland as the most high profile coach probably fits the bill.

Wilder is going to end up going nowhere.

I'm surprised. Particularly by Breland saying this publicly. But also because I had assumed Team Wilder had just embraced Wilder's "unique style," rather than continually fighting it as this video suggests.

I think that he can adjust, he never really was confronted with a situation that dictated he change. The Fury fight shined a glaring light on his faults and a lot of major sports media personalities had it front and center. I think that alone is a powerful motivator for change in him. At least I hope so. He wants to be great but I doubt he can achieve that goal on power alone.

I think that he can adjust and after listening to Breland's feeble excuse I am sure he can adjust with the right trainer. He really wasn't aware that he needed to adjust because he was knocking people out and his trainer didn't have the mental skills to impress upon him the need for change. At any rate his next fight will show something of his mind set for better or worse.

It’s pretty clear that Wilder has never had any respect for Breland. Wilder has displayed blatant disrespect to Brealand several times over the years and Breland just took it, since Wilder was winning, but now Breland most likely felt this was the right time to voice his opinions. Deas brought Breland in to help develop Wilder as he did Anber, who Wilder seems to have some respect for, but even so Anber has admitted on several occasions that Wilder is very stubborn and difficult to teach.

It kind of reminds me of Foreman, who had for whatever reason no respect for Charley Snipes and showed outright contempt towards Snipes.

Breland is a guy who knows a little something about losing, so that pretty much makes it official.

I can confirm from first hand experience that Wilder isn’t very coachable and unfortunately he didn’t come off as the sharpest tool in the shed. In 2013 Wilder, Breazeale, Washington, and Medzhid all visited the fight factory. My trainer had been a long time sparring partner for both Lyle and Quarry and is known for his footwork, so he was helping the guys with their footwork. The only guy that wasn’t willing to take any instruction was Wilder.

Wilder had the worst footwork out of the bunch and said boxing footwork was old fashioned and he didn’t need it. After making that statement none of the coaches at the fight factory paid much attention to Wilder for the rest of the time he was there.

The problem for Breland and Wilder is that the best thing to happen to him at this stage would have been a loss. It would have humbled him and made him actually focus on getting better.

With him getting the "draw" which he didnt deserve, he is only going to carry on as normal and be as sloppy as in the ring. He thinks that he would have landed on a fully match fit Fury? Of course he wouldnt have done.

He's basically like Kovalev, only he takes better care of himself between fights. Tough to train and successful enough that it just reinforces the stubbornness. It's more common to find that trait in punchers.

Seen the video, first thing that came to mind when I read the thread title. Lewis is trying to show him how to double up on the jab and Wilder just can't get it!!! First thing I thought was "how ****en dumb are you? You've got Lennox Lewis standing in front of you/giving you a one on one and he's explaining everything really well...but you can't follow simple directions???"

Tyson was one of the best listeners ever to a tainer as he was being developed by Cus and Rooney, every move he made was detailed and practised, he had that 'spark' that D`Amato used to look for in young fighters, it was after Rooney left that Mike became an arrogant prat that wouldn`t listen to his trainers.

If Breland quit camp Wilder then he wouldnt be the 1st. There have already been a couple of people hired to help Deontay who have quit cuz if Wilder dont fancy listening to them then he wont listen to them. Ive always called Deontay Scrappy doo. The people behind him have protected him his whole career, fed him bums to KO then stroked his ego so much that he thought knocking out club level career losers shows the whole watching world he is the baddest man on the planet. And if he walks around with that mentality because he beat loser Mcloser in 3 rounds hes guna think too highly of himself to need to listen when other people tell him how he should do it.

And when you get idiots with the mentality of Deontay Widler it cant be easy for people like Breland who know that his fighter has many holes in his game, holes which the best fighters can sniff out and exploit.

Breland should be godamn ashamed of walking out on Deontay like that, in his biggest fight! No Christmas bonus for you pops! I expect the bomb squad to come around his to gym, and give him a little talking to sooner or later. We need to flush these traitors!
