    Ann Wolfe.

He could always gamble on Virgil Hunter, since he specializes in "fixer-upper" projects in desperate need of a shot in the arm - but his success rate is pretty mixed and like Roach his approach doesn't gel with or work for everyone.

Maybe a Nasim Richardson, actually. Kirkland needs a calm, authoritative voice but also someone that can pump him up psychologically (and McClinton could well for all we know be all of those, but he doesn't KSAB to anywhere near the extent that Richardson does)

The only fighters I would say have really had much success with Hunter are Ward and Khan, and Ward would probably do well no matter who was his trainer.

I've been interested in looking at different trainers. Name me some fighters Richardson has trained. I know Hopkins is one.

...and Ward didn't come to him under "fixer-upper" circumstances.

Hunter is kind of in the same conspicuous position that Phil Jackson was in with all the luck he kept having consistently landing teams so overladen with talent you couldn't possibly miss the playoffs even if you tried sabotaging your own chances by doing everything wrong. Except the evidence seems to indicate that Jackson actually was a legitimate ATG (or at least very good) coach in his sport, whereas Hunter...not so much.

The only person Hunter really ever "made better" was Khan. A few others to lesser extents and not with consistent results.

May or may not have anything to do with this, but I know someone who is pretty involved with the boxing scene in Texas who tells me Wolfe is a complete psycho who goes off on people for no reason, throwing hysterical fits and screaming at anyone in sight.

It may be that it's just not possible for someone to work with her long-term.

You just suck it up and put up with that if you want to win, if you are Kirkland, IMO. conf

Easy to say if you're not there. Sometimes it's just not possible to work with someone.

And I refuse to believe that she is the only trainer who can do a good job preparing Kirkland to win. I mean, really?

Isn't she an ex-con, ex-junky, ex-gang member? Of course, she's going to be a psycho with all that in her history. But it takes two to tango and Kirkland is an ex-con too, so you are mixing some very unstable elements. You wouldn't expect a marriage between these two to last; so why would a business relationship?

Could be worse. I recall Billy Blanks in James Toney's corner for the second Sam Peter fight. That was sad :patsch

OMG yeah. That would have been comical had it not been such an obvious nail (yet another :-() in the coffin of the pathetic husk of modern heavyweight boxing.

The goddamn Tae Bo guy. I suppose, bearing that in mind, yeah, it could be worse than McClinton. :!:

Mosely was trained by Richardson, im not sure how long for but he was instrumental in the victory over Margarito.

Ann Wolfe isn't the only trainer out there though. She isn't even the best. She's trained one good fighter, and that's Kirkland, so how do we know if she's even good? Kirkland might do better under someone else and that would prove his success wasn't attributable to Ann Wolfe's training.

Now, if Kirkland was being trained by Nacho Beristain, Freddy Roach, Virgil Hunter, Ronnie Shields, Robert Garcia, or someone with a track record of training champions then I would say maybe he should patch things up. But I'm just not convinced that Ann Wolfe punches the winning ticket for him. Call me crazy, but when I see Ann Wolfe speak I get that ghetto vibe off of her. I don't get that Eddie Futch/Emanuel Steward vibe like you are in the presence of a master of the game. Teddy Atlas inspires more confidence in me, and he's a volatile headcase.
