You know the adage "styles make fights"? Well there's another truism along those lines - "chemistry makes relationships". You can't reduce to a formula of "good trainer & talented boxer = success" any more than you can reliably use ABC logic in picking outcomes.

That's why guys like Roach and Hunter can lead some guys to world titles and fail epically with others.

Wolfe might just be a one-trick pony in the world of training, but if her one trick is bringing out the best in Kirkland like nobody else on earth can, then she is the right trainer for him. She could be great for him, but horrible for anyone else.

    That's just how it works.

Kirkland's new trainer is Rick Morones Jr. McClinton will serve as the strength and conditioning coach.

Here's a link to a recent interview with Rick Morones Jr. on training Kirkland for his upcoming bout against Canelo Alvarez.

I actually like the Nacho suggestion... if they could work out the language barrier.
Kirkland is a all out pressure fighter, why not put some mexican intelligence behind that.

McClinton is some sort of self help type mentor for troubled kids, and he's a life coach who tries to improve his clients stamina and health he's worked with Eva Longoria.:blood

Sounds exactly like someone James needs.......in his life...but not necessarily as his boxing trainer. But it could work.:conf

He was present at the Alvarez-Kirkland press conference but did not speak at the podium.

Here's a link to the presser where McClinton states that Rick Morones Jr. is the head trainer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn7ufSBKzBs

Tune in at the 9:50 minute mark.

    Cool. :good

So Bay-Bay is more of just the mouthpiece/hype-man of Kirkland's team. Someone at Golden Boy must have misconstrued what that meant when tagging him as "Kirkland's trainer".

Still, though, shifting focus to Morones - wtf are his qualifications to be HC in an important fight with possible step-to-a-world title/eliminator implications? :yep

I don't know much about him, but based on his interview with fightsaga, he's been a trainer for over a decade now. This is his first big break as a head trainer.
