You hear of people dying all the time but this actually shook me a bit today I was a massive fan of him and trainers should probably not have fans but I liked him and always followed what he did I was lucky enough to say hello to Herol Graham when he visited Devon and the only question I asked him was what was it like being trained by Brendan Ingle
Sad day for British boxing. Brendan was a legend. We all sit on forums criticizing things etc...myself included. But Brendan without silver spoons etc...dragged himself from nothing to be a real success in boxing. Not an easy thing to do. Guy deserves all the accolades going. Great to see his legacy continues through his son. Rip Brendan.
Met him when I was in the UK in March of 1992. Wanted to make a fight card and the only one I could get to while there was a back-jacket show in Hull (Tony Booth fought, I think in the main event). Mr. Ingle was there with Johnny Nelson (who wasn’t fighting) and I met both of them after and we talked boxing for a whie, got my picture taken with them (no idea where those are now). They couldn’t have been nicer gentlemen. Ingle was eccentrically brilliant in his approach and methods. I remember reading a quote one time, “Brendan Ingle’s fighters even walk into the gym backwards.” But it worked. RIP to a man who was a credit to the fight game. Glad I can say that I met him.
