They should set this up on Showtime, winner gets a chance to comeback and loser should retire. Anybody else wants to see this fight happen? The first fight was the best heavyweight fight I have seen in quite a while, I think a rematch would be exciting and spark some interest. Hell, people are applauding James Toney for facing Hasim Rahman, Brewster - Lyakhovich 2 would be ten times more intriguing than that :hey
I'd watch it, and it's probably both guys best (possibly only) shot at a decent payday at this point. :yep
I agree that the first fight was one of the best HW bouts in years, but Brewster has a pretty screwed up eye while Liakhovich just doesn't seem to give a damn any more. I'm not sure this would be all that good a fight, sadly. I'm not even sure that Brewster plans to fight on...
I think the first bout was one of those rare fights that destroyed both fighters careers. To be honest, I wouldn't mind if both guys retired, not because they can't fight but because they are damaged goods. I don't want to be watching a news documentary about how they are each man is a basic a mumbling vegetable 20 years from now.
There first fight was the Heavyweight fight of the year in 06, though both men have taken quite a beating since there meeting in April of 06, Brewster took a 15 months off to repair his eye, and last July fought Wlad, and proved his head wasnt there and all years of wars have finally caught up with him, quiting on his stool after the 6th round. Liakhovich had a equally tough time getting back on track, his fight with Briggs in November or December of 06 proved too much for him, it was a pretty competitive fight to some peoples surprise, with Briggs countering well and scaring Liakhovich back with his big right hand. Then the 12th round came, Liakhovich was winning the fight on all 3 judges scorecards and just had to stay on his feet to win, but Briggs' heavy hands got the best of Sergei and was viciously knocked out of the ring with seconds remaining in the fight. His fight against Valuev earlier this year proved to many he lacked the passion, as well as the fighting skills to get back to the top again, getting thoroughly beaten through 12 rounds. I feel both Lamon and Sergei have nothing left in the tank anymore, I think it's clear to anyone that has watched there most recent fights would agree, that it's best they just retire for health reasons. Thankfully, I will always have great memories of Brewster, and how his toughness and heart seemed to prevail in big fights, over the more skilled fighters more times than not.
You could very well be right there. Neither guy looked the same after it. Lyakhovic has been fighting a little more, but looks like a shell of himself in the ring. And, in the rematch vs Wlad, it looked like Lamon just didn't have the usual heart and fight in him he always had. I don't know if I've ever seen him look that discouraged by the end of it, although eating 2000 jabs in that fight probably didn't help matters.
My fiance said the same thing last night. I told her if she wanted to watch a real heavyweight fight, watch this one. She loved it!!
