Díaz repeatedly juking side to side to make Maia miss, then taunting, then tying up and roughhousing.

 

The live chat on YouTube is split about 50-50 between people who think that Díaz is winning and about to get robbed, calling commentary crooked etc - and people calling him a scoundrel and saying things like "the guy in purple must not have been his mom's favorite, he needs lots of hugs"

 

This is kind of a chore...between the chaotic dirty boxing, the ref not maintaining control, the shrieking women in the crowd and the omnipresent vuvuzelas... I just want to watch Leo Sánchez and be done with this card, man.

 

This is the bout people were clamoring all day for.

 

Thank goodness that's over with. Some people have Díaz up by a couple of points. Eh, a draw or close win for Maia will be fine IMO.

Not in a hurry to watch either of these guys again, though.

...if I'm understanding correctly, that last decision caused an uproar bordering on a riot, preventing things from progressing along now.

Lots of people filing out, not sure if they left in protest or got ejected for making a scene. Many empty dinner tables at ringside, and the bleachers only half filled.

The commentators throwing around the word "polémica", shrugging awkwardly to each other and into the camera.

Now they're interviewing a fuming Carlos "The Viper" Díaz.

 

That stupid fight has taken up entirely too much of my life.

It started over an hour ago, was terribly unpleasant to watch, and it's now been over 20 minutes since the result and it's still affecting things.

 

Leonardo José Sánchez Gamboa vs. Victor Alfonso De Lira Quezada, 10 rounds @ welterweight

 

Like all the other 10-rounders on the card, this is for a WBA Fedebol title.

 

Round 1

Sánchez stalking southpaw Quezada, jabbing into his right forearm or bicep to hold the right jab in check. Sánchez begins doubling the jab stepping forward, prompting for a reaction. Overhand left by Quezada falls short while stepping wide to his left. Sánchez is parrying away the Quezada jab, then squatting and shooting his quick left jab into the body. 1-2 by Sánchez. Quezada falls in with a combo, blocked. Sánchez with a jab and then a faked roundhouse right, making Quezada duck. Sánchez jabs in and jumps out to dodge an overhand left.

Wow...so apparently this brewed into a real blood & guts war after I left to do RBR for the Moore vs. Savage (figuring I could pause & rewind this one, but not that)

El Zurdo dropped Sánchez at the very end of round 10, and he was saved by the bell! The ref had to let both know the fight was over, and they collapsed into a respectful embrace.
