Just read the very sad news of the passing of Brian London. For us of a certain age London will always be remembered as being an important part of the british heavyweight scene in the 50`s and 60`s
R.I.P. Brian He had a good innings. He wasn't a greatest boxer in the world but he scored top marks for effort. A plucky warrior.
Havnt heard Brian's name for sooo long. yes he's had a good innings and a career to be proud of. RIP Brian.
RIP Brian London. My dad loved him, alwsys told me how London when criticesed said he earned money for a fancy car and a hotel from fighting.
RIP According to my grandparents when I was little Cooper and London were the best British heavyweight fighters there ever was, obviously not big boxing fans but nostalgic all the same.
My Father went to his grave telling me stories of the night he attended Brian Londons fight with Newports D ick Richardson , "utter carnage " he used to describe it as with a chuckle , that fight has gone down in Welsh Boxing folklore as the ' Brawl in Porthcawl ' ....Rip Brian & condolenses to Family & Friends.
I was very sorry to hear that Brian London had passed away. He always seemed like a nice bloke with a great sense of humour. Rest in peace, sir.
Don’t let it be forgotten how Brian was butted out of that by the Billy goat. He was well ahead until the 60’s version of Fireman Jim Flynn, stuck the nut on him, as he had done to DeJohn and Cleve Williams. Valdez resorted to the same tactics, robbing London of another win!
Aye that's the one mate quality ain't it and not a bottle or chair thrown , even the hooligans were gentlemen in the 1960's .
Sad news. Brian was an utter professional who said he Boxed for three reasons, " Pounds, Shillings and Pence ". Brian never drank or smoked and still ran every morning until well into his 70's. He was known around the Black Country and Shropshire for turning up at Boxing Booths. Giving his name as Aircraftsman Harper, ( London did his National Service at RAF Stanmore near Bridgnorth ), he seldom failed to knock out the pro and win the money. Never anything less than honest, in what I think was his last public interview, he spoke of his fear going into his fight with Muhammad Ali and his lifelong regret at not really giving it a go. Hearing him choke up brought a tear to the eye. RIP Champ.
