Then I'd say 'great fight'. Unfortunately I think they're not on the same level, progression wise. Kind of unlikely. :?
I also remember Mads Larsen doing round 1-2 OK before breaking down. But sure - sad to see Mads Larsen in that shape, as he was way more talented than Rudy. In any case, it seems that Sauerland will try to pit Mads Larsen and Rudy Markussen against each other (Mads Larsen is presumably injured at this time - I thought he stopped his career, but apparently not) 5-6 years ago it would have made a lot of sense to have them fight. Now it would just be a sad domestic clash, between two boxers who did not now when to retire.
Magee proved he was for merit with Bute and winning an interim belt. consolidated his Top 10 Ring position. Now he confirms one time more. If he`ll be in the Ring with Ward what will say those who said Bute fighting him was a weak fight for the first?
Ward will have problems with Magee. He doesn't have the power to keep Magee off him. Anyway, of course the judges will give him a wide decision as they always do in Oakland..He will put a better fight than Green or Abraham that's for sure.
Is Magee substantially bigger than Ward on fight night? I can't remember. As for keeping Magee off him, I think Ward would actually enjoy some up close & personal time in the pocket with a southpaw. Bute prep. :deal
Dont any of you think how good this looks on R Reid who beat prime undefeated Magee, putting him down 3/4 times (cant remember if it was 3 or 4 times now)
Everybody knows Reid was good, and that he was unlucky not to get the nod against the two premier European SMW's of his generation. It isn't that shocking that he mopped up with Magee, who is below that tier. Besides, some people age better & more gracefully in the sport and are able to compete for a long time without turning into punching bags. Magee is one. Reid isn't/wasn't. So the fact that Magee is having success now (and would obviously win a rematch now) doesn't mean that Reid wasn't still a tier above back in the day.
Reid-Magee wasn't a pretty fight...And I have had a lot of bias against Magee since that fight, probably unfairly. But he looked at sea so many times in that fight it was hard not to come away from that fight with a poorish opinion of him. Though it was a bit of revival period of Reid's career at the time, after the farce in Germany, he still looked a faded fighter at that stage. He is a pretty handy fighter who has developed his bag of tricks over time...I don't consider him particularly durable in the strictest sense but his cageyness, conditioning and intestinal fortitude make him a hard guy to put away.
