Brian Magee to defend European title in Dublin

It couldn't be an eliminator for the WBC as it's tied up with the super 6. As for the WBO, Smith is #5 and Magee #11 so it's unlikely to be an eliminator.

The report never said it was an eliminator. Facts are though that Magee is #4 with the WBA and the only guys ahead of him are Jean Paul Mendy who has just won and IBF eliminator and Andre Dirrell who's int he super 6.

Simply put Magee is next in line for a shot at Sartison and is taking the easiest route to it. Can't blame him for that.

On another note, what the f*** is a WBA regular champ. Andre Ward is the WBA champ, Sartison's title isn't worth the plastic it's made from.

 

I doubt winning the Londsale outright is a career aspiration for Brian Magee (no disrespect to the Londsale belt its a belt you have to earn)

I think he'd rather fight in his own country within a 2 hour drive from his home town. He hasnt fought in Ireland for 3 years I think he's earned the right at this stage without the likes of you claiming he is ducking the likes of Paul Smith

I would agree with that but I think at this point in his career and considering how well he won the belt he should be looking at moving on quick and trying to get into a position for a world fight and not just fighting some random dodgy European....too many of our boxers get stuck fighting duffers for too long instead of making haste while they are in rich form.

Those 3 Cubans, Acosta, Garcia and Perez are worth seeing in the flesh they are top top fighters. Martirosyans a good fighter and depsite the poor opponent for the main event the crowd'll be so pumped for Magee it'll make up for it

with regards to the lonsdale, he was nominated for it, when there are guys chomping at the bit to have a go, i think it was a bit off walking away from the table.
Maybe he hasn't ducked Smith, but i thought he had something much bigger lined up to pull out of bids, in what would have been a sell out wherever it was staged

Everyone has to fight someone coming up behind them at some point. I am sure Smigga would sooner fight for the euro title if it meant moving towards a world title, even if it meant giving up the british title.

True but the point Paddy was making is that Magee had a lot less to gain than Smith for the fight. Warren's deal obviously wasn't good enough for him.

Smith wasn't a mandatory or anything so you can't accuse Magee of ducking him. Magee's got his sights on Sartison and that's it really.

 

Smith is a Legit Challanger but there are other challangers out there too

one of your reasons for magee to fight Smith was that he would get a crack at the Lonsdale belt I dont see that as a reason to fight him at all:deal

The reason why i made my point the way i did is because I didnt want certain posters getting upset about get the Londsale belt getting belittled

There are other guys out there that have earned a shot aswell this is a volentary defence

I know for a fact Smith was offered a fight with Lolenga Mock

This would surely have put him in position for a mandatory shot at the EBU title if he beat Mock

Does that mean smith is ducking Mock?

for the record I dont think it does but it is a high risk low reward fight just like Magee-Smith

 

It wasnt my intention to stir shite, but I do believe either Degale or Groves will
take Smiths belt in the next year. And Im not alone in that opinion.
