This isn't actually happening, is it? There hasn't seemed to have been any news since the night of PF. Magee should fight Smith or someone else for whom he'll get a bit more credit, if he can't land a world title fight (ie the winner of Bute-Brinkley, which is longer than he should be sitting around waiting anyhow). Mendy should rematch Paul David, just to silence the bellyaching of a vocal minority of critics with a second win. It would also help legitimize him springboarding from PF toward higher goals, like eventually the British title (about as high as he ought to be setting his sights, honestly).
Aye? You think he'd have had a real chance with the tough and experienced Irishman (even faded)? It seemed a mismatch to me, and I took a shine to the Tiger in the tourny, and thought all that drivel about David being robbed was nonsense.
i enjoyed mendy in pf but he looked very raw and i think magee would give him a lesson in boxing. they should just keep mendy fighting and learning at the moment
I spoke with Patricks coach the other day. They wont be taking a McGee fight, they know it would come too soon, also Patrick can still do middle, so they are looking at those options.
Mendy should take it. He is not that bad a fighter but will never be good enough get a legit crack at a euro belt holder. Magee does not need to be bothering with the fight though.
I disagree. Whilst he has plenty to learn admitedly, he is only 19 and soaks **** up like a sponge, his usual style is a lot cleaner than you saw at Prizefighter, they developed that stratedgy just for that tourney. Once he learns how to properly sit on his shots he is going to be a very dangerous boy.
He's young indeed, and has a lot of upside with his athleticism. I reckon there might be a time down the line when people look back and can't believe he was once 5-4. That time, however, will come well after Magee's retired.
Hopefully you are right but I can not ever see him becoming good enough to beat fighters of Magees standard. He will probably make a good British level contender.
apparently Mendy is going doen to Middleweight. Magee's next fight will likley be his mandatory Stas Kashtanov. Ranked number 9 by the WBO so will improve his ranking there.
Magee vs Smith is the fight that needs to happen or Smith vs Groves. Magee vs Groves makes sense too. Quigley, Dodson, Mendy etc can battle it out for top contender status.
Mendy is from the Gambia so could never fight for the European. I talked to Brian that night and he never intended to fight the winner..it was just done by matchroom for publicity. As for a rematch with Paul David, Mendy is only a middle so he'll be boxing there from now on. He's fought above his weight in most of his fights and taken them at late notice so it's about time he was able to fight at his own weight and with a bit of notice. Cello Renda, Maxwell or either Concepcion would be a good next fight.
lets hope winning prizefighter means he can now get the same chances as other prospects his age, not fighting above his weight or at a couple of days notice. with the right training and fights he has a chance to go places.
