Brian Magee vs. Patrick Mendy

Again, he's a middle so no point in fighting at 168 again. I'm sure he'd love the chance to fix that loss (providing it was televised!) but he should look for guys his own size at the moment.

 

I know...I read that he had dropped to a better weight but I was under the impression that alot of folk who saw the fight had him winning so a rematch would be worth while.....hopefully he gets good fights at middle and does not drop into the fighting nobodies catagory. What level of opponent do you think he will be fighting against next? I would hope for lads around the top 20 domestically and not dodgy imports...he has shown he has something in him and can mix it with good opponents so the momentum should be kept up...

 

Is a Paul Samuels type to risky right now, or not?

 

It depends on how they want to push him. I would probably put him in with Samuels now 'sink or swim' and because below that level you are mainly looking at filler fights...if they intend on giving him a couple of years in the gym then decent fights then he will not be facing a Samuels type fighter for some time.

 

I just wonder if being so young, he would benefit from a year or so of 'polishing' his act. Maybe a step up to a samuels/renda type opponent in a year then??

 

Surely they can just match him similar to how the likes of Benavidez is being matched! He's 19 man!
Feed him like 8 journeymen, then build him to a sap like Renda..... I really think Mendy has potential!!

 

I havent read every post, but doesnt everyone know Mendy is fighting at the end of this month against Sakio Bika on the Marquez - Diaz undercard. Looking forward to it as they are both fringe SMWs who can get in the picture a bit more

I would put him in with Samuels now in an 8 rounder no problem. Anyone from 10-20 in the rankings would be a good fight. I've no problem with him having a few 6/8 rounders against foreign opposition next though. That's what Martin Murray did after he won prizefighter and he was far more experienced than Patrick.

The most important thing now is that he fights people at his own weight and with a bit of notice. He's earned that right now.

In answer to the thread, I think B Magee would be too much for Mendy at this time and wouldnt want the fight to happen. Ive never really rated Magee but hes done more in his career than I first thought he would and wish him all the best. Its really time for him to try and get as many big fights as possible now, and try and use the Euro champ angle to get a world title shot. He would probably stand a chance against Steiglitz

 

Mendy-Samuels is a natural fight to make at 160 could be an eliminator as well.

He should. I can not be over critical of Anderson because I have seen only a little of him but I would imagine that he should be smashing opponents of Mendys level up by now if he has visions of moving into domestic title level soon.
