The two were lined up to face off one another around the late 80s but it never happened. Lockridge's rival Tony Lopez would end up fighting Mitchell twice instead. This is yet another mouth watering match up that would have delivered excitement had it been signed but it wasn't to be. Did Lockridge around this time have enough in the tank to give a skilled boxer like Mitchell a hard fight?

No. Besides being a bit of a ring chameleon, Mtchell was ridiculously tough and well conditioned. He takes over after the tenth and takes a tough but obvious decision.

Kevin would need to wear ear muffs, because Brian would box his ears off.

Mitchell was just so well rounded and so well conditioned. South Africa's #1 boxer of all time. I think he takes it.

Lockridge would give 100% as always but Mitchell is one of those fighters who could do everything well.

I think the South African is a little underrated because the division was a little weak at the time and for political reasons he couldn“t be given much press.

All 11 title defenses away from home! Must be a record.

I think Rocky would bring out the best in Mitchell and make it a good fight.

Brian by clear but hard fought decision.

I would say Mitchell beats even an early-mid-eighties version of Lockridge, as much of a soft spot as I have for Lockridge.

I absolutely love both buys but there are levels to this thing and Brian was a cut above.
