Martinez wins a UD, though according to Brian Rose and a few other peoples IG / Twitter accounts the Blackpool man should have got the nod. A weird fight with probably an expected ending - Rose would never get the decision over there if it was remotely close with Martinez owning the promotional company putting the fight on.
Despite the disputed points victory, Maravila's knees were wrecked years ago, so I can't really see him making much of an impact at a higher level than this fight was at. Which is a shame, because I loved watching him in his prime. And Brian Rose is at Middle and has a lot of miles on the clock, which probably means Anthony Yarde will drag him up to Light Heavyweight for one of his future "fights".
Was ringside for this, a clear win for Maravilla in a mostly uneventful fight. rose was deluded to think he won, never stepped on the gas at any point.
I can’t comment without seeing the full fight, but I’ve watched the highlights and it looks as though Martinez fought in bursts and Rose was the aggressor, but largely ineffective bar one or two decent moments. Truthfully neither of them will ever go on and compete at a higher level now - both had their day. It’s a shame Rose never got to fight Fitzgerald (and likely wont now given Fitz issues) because on tickets alone he would have made a nice little sum.
Totally forgot about this. It was a weird fight when it was signed. Both long past their best and Rose wasn't a world beater to start with.
