Brian Viloria vs. Omar Nino Romero III & Julio Cesar Miranda vs. Rodel Mayol RBR

Gotta say, as much as I've enjoyed watching Pingo Miranda these last four years - he doesn't deserve that Viloria rematch now after all based on this showing.

This is kinda what he's always been like...but he isn't finding that second gear like he normally would, is looking very vulnerable to body shots which is unusual, and has just never had his signature snap on his punches.

He might just be done.

 

Round 9

Mayol is stalking, landing hooks and rights to the head and flurries to the body. Miranda flops against him and holds & hits. Wide slaps to the sides by Miranda, unwilling to let go when prompted by the ref. They clinch and waltz across the ring. Mayol pulls free and lands some blasts up and down. Miranda flops in again and smacks the sides, very tired.

Yeah, it's shocking that Mayol doesn't realize this.

He's really hurting Miranda with body shots and then not following up on them. He seems convinced he needs to get the KO by attacking the chin.

 

Round 10

Left and right uppercuts by Mayol. Time out. Tape on Mayol's glove is checked out. Time in. Wild hooks by Mayol, getting reckless. He doesn't seem to care about Miranda's power at all. Hard to blame him, as Miranda is just slapping out slowly with both hands. Combos to the face by Mayol, catching Miranda flush on the jaw from above with a chopping left hook. Mayol pummels him with more hooks and Miranda sways but doesn't take a backward step. This is taking years off Miranda's career (which maybe shouldn't progress beyond tonight, anyway...) Mayol spins Miranda around and starts to throw a rabbit punch but thinks better of it and pulls it back. Clinching. Weak slaps to the hips by Miranda as Mayol pushes him back with a glove on each shoulder.
