I would say that yes, he is. Something was up with Solis last week, and although Viloria has to be given huge amounts of respect to continue plugging away (and THAT right hand, woah!!!) but Gonzalez would bring much more pressure, and, so far at least, he appears very sturdy. His win over Niida in a long-reigning champion's hometown was as impressive a win in the lower divisions last year and went under the radar with most. I say Gonzalez wins a decision against Viloria anywhere neutral, although his energy-sapping body shots might get Viloria out of there late. Good thread :good
FINITO, how do you see this fight going? How do you see Gonzalez faring against Calderon, or Joyi if he stays in the strawweight division?
I agree.. Viloria deserves alot of credit for this upset. You know I completely forgot about the time when Rodel Mayol rocked Solis and nearly had him out.. I should have known better.. Yup, that Niida victory was huge for gonzalez.. I guess it all depends on which version of Viloria shows up but I'd go with GOnzalez.. He seems to be the real deal.. Kinda even remind me of a lesser version of Ricardo Lopez.
im not into gonzales...im never been a fan of south american p4p prospect..i'll go with viloria in this one...gonzales can not take the power of a natural 112 pounder
Gonzalez is a beast, and so was Solis. I dunno stylistic wise Id lean towards Gonzalez over Viloria but I would still pick Solis over Gonzalez in a heartbeat.
i would pick sosa, solis, calderon, segura and viloria over gonzales...gonzales should fight raul garcia, glassy chin...he can easily beat that guy with his power...
I would pick Roman Gonzales over Viloria by way of UD. He's a bit faster than Solis, and we all knew Viloria had a hard time dealing with him til the later rounds.
SEGURA?!?!?!?!?!? Asero, you are the first Gonzalez hater! Congratulations, does that mean I am a Gonzalez nuthugger??? FINITO, I agree with you, I too had forgot Solis was human after telling myself he was the only guy that had a chance against Calderon. I think Solis would have a better chance at beating Calderon if he had his A Game with him, I don't think Viloria would beat Calderon. Asero obviously thinks Gonzalez is overrated and is forgetting how big the Niida fight was. Mind you, Asero is the guy that thought Jorge Arce coming from behind on PTS and stopping Carbajal was a great victory, even though it never happened, proving he just forgot what he read and had never actually seen the fight
And I don't think Gonzalez reminds me too much of Ricardo Lopez, I don't think he has the ability to destroy from mid-range or box from the outside like Lopez did. I think he uses the mid-range to hurt his opponent and work his way inside, and that's when his opponent is in trouble. I guess having Arguello to give him tips with make him a multi-faceted fighter in time, people forget the kid is only 21. Personally, I'd like to see him fight Joyi or one of the other SW champs. If not, quit moing around in a division where unification rarely happens and chase the big fights at Light-Fly. Gonzalez vs. Koki Kameda, how does it go :rofl
im not a fan of south american p4p prospect...get back to me if your guy, gonzales beat any of sosa, solis, segura and calderon...he can beat viloria at 108 if gonzales is really for real, he could be the best south american fighter in the last 20 years
