What yall think? Im for it. Tired of seeing little heavyweights getting their asses handed to them by 250-300lb giants
Hello Mauricio, no, the vast majority is against it... Which little heavyweights are getting their assed handed by those giants? Haye and Holyfield vs Valuev? Mike Hunter vs Bakole & Ustinov? Andy Ruiz JR vs Joshua? Boxing doesn't need this ridiculous division. Every 200+ pounds guy is a heavyweight, and with the right skillset he is able to beat any other heavyweight.
I'm not for it personally. Skilled fighters under 225 can and have held their own with the giants of the weight. Usyk is likely to be successful, Byrd held a title for a fair amount of time, Hunter is picking off contenders and Povetkin and Haye were top contenders and champs in their own right. Why force those type of guys to fight in a watered down division or put on additional weight that isn't beneficial to their style.
It was named for a little boy named Bridger who saved his brother from a dog attack and took 90 stitches for it. But yeah it could have a better name.
All of the smaller guys who come to fight do well... Most of them mentally quit before the fight begins.
What about if Bridgerweight was accompanied by stringent, year round PED testing at HW? Bridgerweight becomes a junior division for those without the resources to do year round testing. Not that this will happen, but if it did?
Hells no! Not only do we not need any new weight classes, they need to get rid of some of the current weight classes.
