The reserves should only be for the 1st & 2nd rounds, if the finals have to be postponed until an injury heals then so be it. Everyone in the finals earned their way there, the chance at that winning purse should not be given to someone who did not earn the chance. Just my opinion.

In general I might agree but whereas both Usyk and Gassiev are known already to have the clock ticking on their exits from cruiser, the inclusion of a reverse finalist might be preferable to a situation where an injury heals, then is repeatedly aggravated due to a rush through rehab to hasten a rescheduled tourney finals date, causing another delay, with the can finally kicked far enough down the road that either or both participants says "You know what? Sorry, but time's up, WBSS, afraid I'm off to heavyweight now & forever..."

I read somewhere that Lebedev gave up his spot on the exception that the winner fight him next.

You can’t have someone who lost in the tournament then go on to win it. Makes a mockery of it.

Well, sometimes life doesn't work out perfectly. Allowing for this kind of contingency is pretty standard practice in sports tourneys, actually.

If either Usyk or Gassiev for some reason can't participate in the final (injury, death heaven forbid, or whatever) it would be preferable to see Briedis, who gave a damn fine accounting of himself, given a second chance than just scrap the entire thing, no?

Would be such a disappointment, but Briedis did fight hard in his loss....................still, I don't even want to think about Usyk/Gassiev not happening....................can't wait for them to move up to heavyweight!!! USTV will boycott their fight anyway as they did the entire tournament, yet USTV will show a house fighter with no losses fighting a wino from an alley................would rather watch a sparring session in the gym...............
