We’ve seen threads and discussions on how Usyk does in the 70s, how does the second best cruiser of the era Briedis fare against the likes of Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Holmes, Quarry, Lyle, Shavers, Young? Does he ever touch the title?

I think he is a solid contender but I can't pick him over Ali, Holmes or Foreman. Breidis was a really goof fighter. Just not well know in states and had the misfortune of being in the wrong era as for popularity of the sport.

I’d confidently pick him over Quarry, Lyle, Shavers and Young albeit with some issues in that one, Norton’s a close fight, I fear for Norton with the Briedis uppercut tbf, Briedis is similar size to Shavers.
He could give Foremn issues, and maybe beat him on a good day, Holmes has the style to beat Briedis tbf because Briedis is an all rounder and shorter than Holmes, Briedis isn’t necessarily a specialist at closing the ring off or getting on the inside, he can do it to a great level, but not to the level of a Frazier, and he certainly couldn’t box on the outside with Holmes, I don’t think he’d get into mid-close range enough to get the better of the rounds.
But Briedis gives them all issues.

He would not be a major factor at Heavyweight in the 70s. A solid contender, but, nothing more.

top 10 contender. Beats Quarry, Foster, likely Shavers and Lyle unless they land big on him.

I would pick him over Norton too. Breidis-Bugner would be interesting too, a 50-50 fight for me.

But i can't pick him over Ali, Foreman, Frazier or Holmes. Breidis is one of my favourites but Foreman smashes him in 3 rounds. Ali is too durable, too quick handed, and just too good. Frazier too, i would favour with him relentless pressure and hooks though Breidis could beat the post 74 version. Holmes is too skilled as well although he was susceptible to a right hand and Breidis had an excellent one. Still, Holmes's jab and outside boxing will win him enough rounds.

I am a big Breidis fan. I think he does very well vs everyone except the big four. And even vs the big four, i could see him being at least somewhat competitive except vs Foreman.

Would give any fighter in the era problems I'd only favor Ali and Holmes over him i think he has good odds against Frazier and Foreman but would be tough fights and beats everyone else without too much issue.

There are a few contenders of the times, out of whom he might bring the best. But as to whether he himself would make any serious headway (e.g., into the Top-5), I doubt it.

Briedis is getting seriously overrated in this thread a considerable favourite over Quarry ? based on what exactly ? what is Briedis's best win ?

Briedis is good don't me wrong but i don't think he's "that good" he wouldn't be a a major force in the division. He'd be top 10 for sure but he would definitely lose to Fraizer, Foreman, Holmes, Ali, and there's plenty of other contenders during that era that could beat him Lyle, Quarry, Ellis, Young, Norton, etc.

So basically people are claiming Usyk vs Briedis is FOTC (21st)

Usyk is equal to Ali and Briedis is equal to Frazier?! Like really?!

It's not uncommon for a close rival or rivals of a [potential] legend (Usyk) to be lionized by fans.

I think the problem is people tend to overrate fighters based on popularity of their era. Quarry was a star in his era as we're most of the top ten from the 70's. Boxing was a major sport at that time unlike today. When you ask what was Breidis best when and I name Dorticos or Huck, most folks will shrugs their shoulders. Watching film of that era of cruiserweights, I know how good they were because I can see. Sure Ernie Shavers hit hard but he was flawed and inconsistent as hell. I feel like it's the same conversation over and over. Folks will mention Galento from the 40's as a great fighter but when I watch film of him, I laugh my head off. Watch film of Dorticos and tell me he isn't a well seasoned pro.

Eye test and watching his fights pretty clear he's a level above most contenders of that era. Favoring him against the first four are fine but I really don't see any contenders beating him he's shown a much higher level then all of them.
