Glo hit Bried intentionally in the back of the head and looked like Bried spun out with an elbow out and Glo was unfortunate enough get nailed with it. Afterwards he went down like he was acting. I don't think it really hurt him, just as I don't think the rabbit punch really hurt Bried. Oh well, if you're going to fight dirty, make sure you can take as well as you give! Looked like Glo was on his way out anyway. Bried was clearly the better fighter, and by quite a bit. Not his fault the ******s managing the fight couldn't get the bell to sound timely and loud enough to hear (actually I think it was more the type of sound, which they apparently pulled out of their asses, to hell with tradition). They should ban that venue from hosting any official championship boxing events for 5 years until they get this crap straightened out.
Nope. Point deduction definitely, DQ... I don’t think so, not if you consider circumstances. Got to give props to Glowacki for the dive tho, he gets hit, thinks about it and goes down.
What Briedis did in retaliation for Glowacki's rabbit punch was perfectly justified under the circumstances. Everything that came afterwards was the ref's fault. Blame Briedis for the second knockdown after the bell? When the ref hadn't stepped in and both fighters were still fighting? What if Briedis had turned away to go back to his corner and Glowacki had clocked him in the back of the head again, or worse? How would that have turned out? What people are losing sight of here is the fact that both fighters were as guilty as each other for breaking the rules, but that ultimately it was the ref that allowed this situation to get so out of control. He should have given Glowacki five minutes to recover after taking a point away from Briedis (even though Glowacki was equally at fault and milking the foul for all he was worth). Then he should have stepped in the moment he heard the bell and, if necessary, taken another time out and warned both fighters to calm it TF down and box according to the rules when they come out for the third round. All of this is on the ref, not on the fighters, and certainly not on Briedis alone.
I don't feel sorry for Glowy after pulling a Dirrell level act, but everything combined there's no way this result should stand. Too many errors that majorly influenced the fight for this to be a valid result. And no matter the weird sound of the bell, if you didn't hear that you're obviously unfit to lead a fght.
Certainly entertaining... Byrd did a horrible job really. I'm cool with Briedis having a point deducted and not a DQ as he was retaliating to a bery blatant shot around the back of the head. But Glowacki should have been given some time to get his senses back and warned too. How he didn't hear the bell is beyond me, really. Totally inept.
This should be a textbook example of how not to ref a fight. Clearly it goes out of control pretty quickly if you’re blind and deaf. Wonder if Byrd and his wife are hell bent on achieving full scale flaming assholes status or it just comes naturally to them. Maybe they are just playing “Bet you can’t top this one” game?
I like how Byrd was trying to talk to the fighters when it was obvious that neither spoke a word of english. Which begs the question, why was there a ref in there who didn't speak the language of either of the fighters?
I have no dog in this fight, but come on now. You are not being objective at all. The rabbit punch was bad, but the elbow was way worse. One has a glove on, the other threw a shot with the sharpest part of his body in retaliation. You're right, it's not his fault for the ref sucking, but the fight was directly affected by incompetence. The second knockdown was like 10 seconds after the bell and obviously that hurt Glowacki. It does not matter if Briedis would have won anyway, this fight has to be ruled a No Contest. There were so many wrongdoings by Byrd.
True although most of the stuff ref says is stuff like stop, break, no punching etc etc so everyone and their horse can understand that. Him having to resort to more than those simple and universal commands is his own negligence and inability to control what happened leading to those moments.
They saved money by booking a room with Robert and Adelaide together. Had it reached the cards, who knows what we'd have seen from her lol
Sure, but one is to the back of the head which can cause brain damage and the other is just to the chin. I hear you, the elbow 'feels' worse in a way but I'm not sure its potential ramifications are worse.
