Saw on the front page that Briggs is comig back again. Allow me to be the first to object. I stuck with Briggs and defended him for a long time, taking his asthma at face value and even supporting, in its face, the one punch knockout strategy he seemed to be employing. But when he cried again about his asthma after the Ibrigamov fight and compared himslef to Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammed Ali, I had had enough. There comes a point when you just have to call him on it and say: "wait a minute, I did not witness any asthma attack during the fight." There comes a point where you have to say that the man really is doing himself no favors by coming in at 270+, and conjecture that maybe the real problem is that he would rather be a body builder than a boxer, and he is just making some money. There comes a point when you hear that he is not even attempting road work when the benefit of the doubt stops. There comes a point when you have to say that if the asthma really is that big of a problem that it is resposible for EVERY poor performance, then maybe he does not belong in a boxing ring and should not get medical clearance. There comes a point when you just have to believe that the man is just plain delusional, and "asthma" is a code word for "laziness." There comes a point when you just want to tell him to stay home and let the sport go on without him. What say all of you?
Oh you are talking about that briggs:tired Seen the topic and thought we were talking about a actual decent fighter in Paul the Hurricane briggs. My badatsch Im out of here.
Well you made some good points, but I strongly believe that if Shannon builds up his stamina/endurance thru more than running JUST ONE MILE, more like 3+ and jumping rope while at the same time losing weight, and not just 5-10 pounds, he could be The dominant Heavyweight. A 245-250 lb version of Shannon seems within reach without being -un-realistic. Shannon has the hand speed and power to rule but doesnt capitalize on his opportunities cause he gets tired too fast.
He should fight David Haye after haye gets rid of Enzo what a fight to start your heavy weight career
:yep To be honest, the fact that he employs a dumb one-punch KO strategy is not really what bothers me so much. If he wants to fight like that, alright. What bothers me, is that his fights are boring as **** because he hardly throws over 15 punches a round!! Literally. It just gives boxing a bad name. I was glad Ibragimov freed us from him as a champ, though it would've been sweeter to see Wlad knock him out. His last two big fights were both slow and boring and often filled with boo-s from the crowd because nothing happened. I will say something positive about Briggs: i think his chin is pretty solid. Haven't seen his early knockout, but he took a shitload of punches from Lewis while still getting up and hasn't been knocked out since.
Why anyone ever jumped on his bandwagon astonishes me. Almost as bad as the Toney fans were a year or two back. Unbelievable.
All depends on Shannon's seriousness. If he would be absolutely determined to win a world title again he could do it. Although I can not recall when Shannon was serious for the last time... Last century may be...
It all depends on Briggs hunger to get to the top again, fo sho. IMO, he needs to get rid of those 30lbs of extra wheight he is carrying. It alone will help improve his mobility, stamina, energy and will not diminish his power. With a couple of worthy fights he can be back in the title mix again, but he won't have more than two good years left to do it. If I believe he will do it? No, I don't, specially after his latest fight.
I also think he can be a good gate-keeper. Obviosuly he cannot perform well on the Top level as the fight with Sultan showed.
