I think Vitali hits harder than the come back version of Foreman in the 1990's. I did not see the fight yet, as my browser had trouble with ESPN3. The fight will be broadcast on ESPN this afternoon. I can comment then. Has anyone ever seen a 120-105 score card? A pure pasting.

    Here's the full article.

HAMBURG, Germany (AP)—Vitali Klitschko punished Shannon Briggs for 12 brutal rounds Saturday to retain his WBC heavyweight title with a unanimous decision.

The Ukrainian champion dominated the action but never knocked down the American challenger.

“I am very surprised by how much he took,” Klitschko said. “He’s got a huge heart.”

The judges scored it 120-107, 120-107 and 120-105 for Klitschko, who improved to 41-2. Briggs dropped to 51-6-1.

“I’ve fought George Foreman, I’ve fought Lennox Lewis, and Vitali’s the best,” Briggs said. “He hits harder than Foreman, he’s got incredibly fast hands. “This was my best fight.”

Klitschko said Briggs deserved “a lot of respect.”
“I could not believe he was still standing after taking so many punches,” Klitschko said. Klitschko used his left jab to set Briggs up for a big right two minutes into the opening round. Then two left hooks found Briggs’ chin early in the second round and the Ukrainian landed some more rights, while Briggs unsuccessfully sought to hurt Klitschko with body blows.

Klitschko connected with several combinations in the third, but Briggs also found the target with counter-punches. The champion scored with a good right hook late in the round. He also finished the fourth strongly.

Briggs connected with a couple of good rights in the fifth, his best round, but also had to absorb several hard hits from Klitschko. Klitschko continued to hit the American repeatedly with left-right combinations in the sixth, and Briggs took heavy punishment over the next few rounds but never went down.

The American was little more than a punching bag by the 10th, with Klitschko seemingly hitting him at will. Briggs surprised Klitschko with a clean right in the 11th, but Klitschko replied with two big rights that snapped back Briggs’ head. But the American only shook his head and stayed up. Klitschko went for the knockout in the final round but Briggs withstood everything.

Allow me to introduce some testimonials then. Danny Williams said Tyson only hit a little harder, but Vitali was more consistent with his power. Julius Fancis who fought both Tyson and Vitali said Vitali hit harder.

Because they both fought prime Tyson...

Mike evidently hit harder than Vitali. Did Tyson ever land hundreds of punches and not even drop an opponent?

Tyson took a few guys the distance. I do think a prime Tyson hit a little harder. I also think Vitali carries his power better into the later rounds.

Its pretty telling that Vitali hit the statue Briggs with 5 times more punches than Lewis and couldnt drop him...Whereas Lewis stopped a version which hit back and used the overhand right which Vitali hit him with dozens of times.
Still if Vit hits Haye with one of those overhand rights, Haye will be KO'd

Vitali isn't much of a one punch knockout artist. He just grinds you down with the volume of punches he throw over the distance. I was surprised to see Briggs last under the onslaught.

I disagree that Briggs's chin has gotten better, he isn't any bigger now than he was when McCline dropped him like a sack of grain.

wait....so if the fact that lewis took him out in 5...means that he is definitly better then Vitali..does that mean that Darroll wilson is better then Lennox and Vitali?

All it shows is how terrible and overrated Briggs truly is.

yea i know..but my point is you really cant say that because lewis stopped him in 5 that makes lewis automatically better then klitshcko..because by that logic..wilson is better then both.

I doubt people are pointing towards Lewis's results against Shannon Briggs to prove he's better than Vitali. It's just fairly obvious that he is better.

Briggs made those comments in front of tens of thousands of Klitschko fans with tens of millions watching live on television.
I put those comments in that context. He was praising the German hospitality, spreading his goodwill to the audience. Being very gracious and grateful in defeat.

Look, the Briggs of last night wouldn't have lasted 1 round against a 1998 Lennox Lewis. He was just an old punch bag, a ridiculously easy target, a muscle-bound 38 year old statue. No speed, no skill, no timing, nothing.
