I'm a Vitali fan and rate him above Wlad. Dont have him top 10 AT but close. However he is fighting nothing at the moment, sure you can defend anything if you want the fun exercise but as a serious boxing person Haye, Adamick, Solis are all vastly superior to his last few opponents. I regret it's too late for Vitali to cement his potential, not all his fault but so be it.
Strange the fight hasnt been officially announced but he says its on for Oct 16. Briggs left for England on Tuesday, but not sure what for?
Briggs could surprise here but I think it's unlikely. He hasn't shown the same kind of shape he was in for the Lennox Lewis fight. Briggs had Lennox hurt and wobbly in the first and second rounds, but he punched himself out swinging wildly and go knocked out. Stamina and conditioning won't be an issue for Vitali, but it sure will be for Briggs unless he comes into this fight in good shape, which I'm not betting on.
Well that's a joke of a fight, but it might still be an entertaining one. I think Briggs is pretty durable. Last time he was stopped, he took a shitload of bombs from a prime Lennox Lewis and still kept getting up for more. The punches Ibragimov and Liakhovic landed bounced off his gigantic skull without much effect.... I wonder if Vitali can do more damage, despite his old age. Lefthook, if it's on ESPN, will you watch ?
Of course, but I think it will go to HBO. I believe Briggs was offered as an opponent by HBO to televise Vitali's fight. Briggs is dangerous for three rounds, and he will undoubteably take his shot.
I think Briggs will go for it in the early rounds, but will Vitali let him? Vitali movement and punch out put for a man his age is astounding. He has masted the art of hitting his man, and leaning back, with a possible counter after the other guy misses. Someone asked me who's the best American heavyweight right now? Maybe Briggs.
Briggs main weapon is his righthand and he's good at throwing it from distance and something Vitali was susceptible to in the Lewis fight so it's going to be interesting early. The only problem is I don't think Briggs has the stamina to bring the right kind of pressure for more than three four rounds so I expect Vitali, being the smart fighter he is, to recognize this, and run for the first few rounds until Briggs tunes down.
