The corner should have stopped that, what the f*ck they were thinking I dont know. Sad to watch Briggs getting battered like that. He needs to retire.
That wasnt even a real ref. just some bum they found in South America to wear a referee uniform and circle the fighters without doing anything else.
The ref was from England, no? There's a history of bad English referees, the likes of Andrew Smyth who basically let Ingemar Johansson punch to the point of almost killing an unconscious Eddie Machen laying on them ropes.
fight should have ended in round 8 . its both corners and refs fault. i am surprised that briggs are still alive
I'd like to receive more info about this. Hope Briggs is OK. The ref didn't have too many occasions when he could have stepped in. The corner should have stepped in around the 8th or 9th round, at the latest. Amateurs. The **** they were yelling at ringside was embarrassing, too.
The tenth round was three minutes of Briggs swirling around out on his feet, I can't believe the ref let it go on. :-(
He did take too many punches and I dont think anyone would have thought less of him had the corner pulled him out anytime after round 8.I did think the ref had stopped it at one point. The corner should have pulled him but I think he wanted to keep going.I just hope he is ok.
I´ve read that the doc wanted to give the advice to stop it but the ref did not make any indications that he wants to stop it. The doc said that Briggs was ok after the fight and that his pupil reaction was fine but he also said that Briggs became sleepy and that may indicate a brain damage. He also suffered a torn tendon in his arm
john david lewis, is, to my knowledge, a well respectred young ref from england..usually his performances are spot on.....jeez, im a huge shannon fan and hope he is ok, by all accounts he showed incredible bottle, heart and resilience...but what a mismatch....i wish him all the best...
I think he's in ICU because of the severity of the fractures around both eyes. As for neurological damage, I think all fighters suffer a degree of this after every tough fight. Maybe Shannon suffered more, who knows. Let's hope he doesn't fall into a coma or something.
