What's crazy is that in Britain fights gets stopped very easily these days. So for an English ref to let Briggs take such a beating is very odd.
I just read an article that Briggs did not want to go to hospital and did everything to not go there by ambulance. His manager made him go there
They can say what they want to about Briggs..his past fights...but to me, he's a man, all man for soaking it up like he did...I just saw rounds 9 and 10 on You Tube...that 10th round..oh man..that fight should have been stopped. What kind of sadists are the ref and Brigg's corner? Briggs won me as a fan after this..I just hope he's all right.
It's easy to say in hindsight that the ref should have stopped the fight, but at the same time in a championship match it can be hard for the ref to not give a fighter the benefit of the doubt if there is no really obvious stopping point. Because of Vitali's style whenever he had Briggs hurt he didn't jump on him and throw rapid combo's to force the stoppage, he'd take a moment, measure himself and then re-engage giving Briggs enough time to settle himself, so it would have looked silly to some to see the ref in a title fight stop the fight during a point of no action.
Sad to watch Shannon just get battered like that and I sure hope he's ok. Thoughts and prayers with him and his family and friends. He and they were very classy after the fight. I love the shout-out Briggs gave to Chef.
Lots of people were saying it in real-time. Check the round-by-round threads. That argument doesn't stand up.
I'll tell you what they were thinking...they were thinking that perhaps Briggs could come up with a miracle KO, and that would bring another payday for THEMSELVES. Selfish *******s.
Vitali is such a dangerous opponent for fighters with a good chin. Eating repeated concussive right hands for 12 rounds is bad news for anyone, which is why someone like Holyfield should never be allowed to face a Klitschko. Especially not Vitali And I agree it was sometimes cringeworthy last night. It could have been stopped at any point from the 8th
here is another link (german): http://www.spiegel.de/sport/sonst/0,1518,723559,00.html Seems like Briggs collapsed in the cabin, while handing over his doping test. The article says he still had enough power to kick the stretcher cause he wanted to leave the arena on his feet. He is one funny dude The ring doctor Stephan Bock says he (Briggs) was dizzy and suffered from headache and low blood pressure and puls. All signs of a concussion of course. So Briggs went right to hospital. He is in intensive care but responsive. The article also confirms the bone fractures beneath both eyes as well as a teared fibre and muscle of the left arm.
He said that everyone was cool in Vitali's camp, even the chef. I'll get a (legal) link to the ESPN3 archive and try to find the spot he says it at. I just watched the fight there a little while ago.
