We're getting conflicting reports here. The site that reports news on fights has this worded like it's a serious health event. Hard to tell the truth. No matter, prayers for the Cannon.

So the reasons for his left hand being so low may not be so dubious after all...

Ok, here's the direct link to the ESPN3 archive of the fight (this is a legal link):

    http://espn.go.com/espn3/player?id=52383&league=Boxing&size=condensed

At around 1:16:45 or so (you have to drag the player forward with your cursor) Briggs gives props to the Klitschko camp and mentions Chef.

Briggs clearly reads ESB (think he's said that before) and it was awesome he gave a shout-out to Chef (and us, by extension).

Get well soon, Shannon. Props! :thumbsup:good

Briggs is a cool dude, doesn't really hold a grudge even as he knows what Chef wrote about him before the bout.

Yeah. It might also explain the lack of a counter left-hook, which the fight was crying-out for. Poor ****er.

Yeah, he's a good guy. Real classy, him and his whole team there, it seemed. Amazing he could be that kind with all the injuries he reportedly sustained.

Briggs, of course, is a proud man who wanted to show that he is a tough guy. He had never given up on his own account. In this case his corner should have stopped the fight.

It is also true that the referee should have given him a warning for inaction and then should have stopped the fight.

A right hand from Wladimir can be compared to the damage that is caused by a frontal car-crash with 35 km/h. So, one can easily imagine what happened to Brigg's face and brain when he received Vitali's beating.

Briggs actually looked like a bodybuilder, not like a boxer. Obviously, he wanted to compensate his lack of power by impressive looks. As in the case of Miranda, who got knockedout by Abraham, it failed, of course.

I think the fight was disgusting, and by no means entertaining.

    Briggs 'in intensive care'
    17 October 2010, 07:43

Shannon Briggs suffered concussion and fractured cheekbones during his WBC heavyweight title fight against Vitali Klitschko on Saturday night.

The 38-year-old American challenger was hospitalised immediately after the fight in Hamburg, Germany. Klitschko won on points: 120-107, 120-107 and 120-105.

Some reports said Briggs was in intensive care. He had to undergo surgery on his face and also suffered a muscle problem in his left arm.

The muscular and dreadlocked Briggs was never able to live up to his pre-bout bragging Klitschko set out to tire Briggs with a mix of right hooks to his face and blows to his body, taking command from the fourth round.

"From round six I started to worry about Briggs," said fight doctor Stefan Bock, who was at no time consulted by the referee.

Sapa-DPA reports that the American had said he would knock out the champion, who boxes out of Germany, but the 38-year-old challenger was never in it.

A capacity 14 500 crowd in the 02 Arena saw Klitschko come close to putting Briggs on the floor, but knowing the American is a powerful puncher, who had knocked out 45 of his opponents, the 39-year-old kept his guard.

Klitschko was so dominant that Briggs's corner must have come close to throwing in the towel.

Briggs admitted afterwards that it had been his most difficult fight. "Klitschko is a real champion and deserves to be in the Boxing Hall of Fame."

Klitschko paid a tribute to his opponent. "I was surprised that he could take all my punches. He fought bravely and simply would not go down."

The Ukrainian thanked the Hamburg crowd after the fight. "It has been a good day for Hamburg. St Pauli and SV Hamburg won in the Bundesliga and now I also won. I really wanted to give that to the people of Hamburg."

Klitschko's record improved to 38 knockout wins in 43 fights, with two defeats. Briggs stands at 51 wins from 59 bouts with six defeats.

I thought his dreadlocks tied up in a heavy bunch at the back of his head really added to the trauma. Whatch the highlights, u see the shockwaves pass right thru and theres like a secondary concussion as they whip through the dreads. Its sickening. I only watched the highlights but thats all i needed to see..

Oh, ok man. It was cool by Briggs. Good stuff for him to pump up Chef. It's probably on the RTF version, when the guy was interviewing them both after the fight in the ring. :good

    I agree.

Look at what happened to Bowe. That 2nd fight should have been stopped mid way.

Believe it or not the English language is actually from England. It's the rest of the world that has homo accents, if anything. It's their langauge.

    Briggs rushed to hospital
Heavyweight title challenger Shannon Briggs is reportedly in critical condition in the intensive care unit at the University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg, Germany. Briggs suffered fractures below both eyes as well as a concussion, after taking dozens of hard shots from WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko on Saturday night, but is responsive according to RTL. He also suffered a pulled tendon and torn muscle in his right arm.

Briggs was rushed to the hospital after the fight as doctors feared a possible cerebral hemorrhage after observing symptoms associated with neurological disturbances and drowsiness.

Referee Ian John-Lewis, who has received criticism for not stopping the fight, said he was within “one or two shots” of stopping it. “It was a heavyweight world championship,” he said. “These are tough guys and as long as a man fights back, you have to give him a chance.”
