He obviously trained hard, took a beating, never stopped trying and was as truly gracious and eloquent as I've ever seen after the fight...
I like that he said Vitali is the best he has ever fought and I've never been a big Klitskcho fan...

It made me think of Briggs fight against Lewis, who of course KO'd him...When he wobbled Lewis in the 1st round with a check hook, no one was more surprised than Briggs...and then of course gassed out quickly there after, and Lewis did have plenty to do with that...Obviously Lewis did what Vitali could not, KO Briggs...Given the comments after todays fight, I think it says alot about his preparation for Lewis vs his preparation for Vitali...

And it says a ton about Vitali...Briggs nailed Vitali with right in the 11th that would have stopped most fighters, maybe even Lewis...It got Vitali's attention but that's about it...I was fortunate enough to be ringside when Lewis and Vitali brawled at the Staples Center, and Lewis deserved the win...I'm starting to think though, had that fight continued, Vitali's face would have come completely off, exposing that he IS in fact the Terminator...

But most of all, I think what Shannon said after the fight should add some perspective for some of us who have been reluctant to embrace Vitali as an ATG...Vitali is a beast....

And Shannon Briggs is a Class Act...

Good post. It's easy for a fighter to give credit to another fighter right after a bad beating. Do I think Vitali hit's harder than Lewis or Foreman? Hell no, he clearly puts little ass into his punches. Without the twist into the punch, your just throwing an arm punch.

Is Vitali the best fighter Briggs ever faced? I would say 2nd best, you must remember he fought a Foreman who was 46 or 47 at the time. Lewis is the best Briggs ever faced, and proved so by laying him out in the 4th round.

KO's dont = being the best. There are countless examples of this throughout boxing history.

The fighter on your avatar is a great example of it.
He KO'd fighters that Evander Holyfield went the distance with, yet Holyfield KHTFO!:yep

I hear what your saying, but Vitali isn't as good as Lewis. Only his chin was better, can't really think of anything else Vitali has over him.

I agree with all of your points with exception of Vitali just arm punching. He just has heavy hands, not as powerful but very much like Old Foreman...Maybe the ass twist is just more subtle with these giants...

Thanks for the reply, excellent points...

:good Maybe so. I guess what I'm trying to say is most of your power comes from your legs and ass, and the simple twisting motion is what allows an athlete to deliver power through his punch. Baseball players use a similar twisting motion when they hit a baseball, which allows them to hit the ball harder and further.

If you watch Wlad and Lewis, they dig in more when they throw a punch. Which in opinion is why you seen more one punch knockouts from them.

Briggs may have looked too good to land that fight...But, let's hope Haye truly grows into the HW division (I know he should be there now as Champ) and starts fighting some of these guys...He's one of very few that truly has the ability to make things interesting...BTW, I think he would pose significant issues for Vlad...

Thanks for the reply...And we definately need to see more of your avatar...

Agreed...The whole body goes into a good punch...But some big guys are just able to throw apparent arm punches that have deceptive power...They may get the leverage from punching down or just have the strength...IDK...They seem to defy the laws of physics...

Lewis and Vlad punch harder than Vitali though...But Vitali has one heck of a chin...

One can't deny Vitali's great chin, something his brother proved in the past not to have. Wlads the more gifted boxer, Vitali's the tougher fighter.

I have no doubt Vitali punches hard. At 6'7 250, even an arm punch can send a fighter on ***** street. Why Vitali doesn't sit down on his punches like his brother, I dont know. In any event, what he does works. The fact that he's knocked out nearly 90% of his oppenents, it's hard not to say the man is a very powerful fighter.

Apparently Vitali sat down on his punches more than we thought by the news of Briggs injuries...
