That's my feeling too. Why not? HW champions have taken these kind of "gimme" defenses throughout boxing history. Pete Rademacher, Tom McNeely, Richard Dunn, Scott Frank and many other unqualified fighters received shots at the title. Taking a fight against somebody like Briggs is hardly an anomaly in boxing history.

No defending Wlad if he takes this fight, would be right up there with the biggest joke defence in heavyweight history

The fight ONLY happens if the MONEY is right.

And if Briggs has that backer willing to put up 25 mil for, then it's gonna happen.

Wlad aint fighting Briggs for LESS than he 15 million. Not when he could fight Fury in the UK for that much if not more. :good

Vaughn Bean was called upon not once, but twice to fight 90s titlists Holyfield and Moorer.

Michael Bennt, a no-name was brought in to fight for Tommy Morrison's WBO title.

There have been dozens if not hundreds of bigger JOKE defenses that 43 y/o Briggs who's bringing 25 million to the table.

Only way this JOKE fight happens is if the financials are right. If not, Wlad can go head and take Fury to purse bid, Glaskov to purse bid, or offer Wilder a substancial sum.
NTM, the winner of Chaggy/Browne would be possible for Sept as well.

IF, and that's a big IF, the $$$$ is what it's purported to be, ie 25 mil, Wlad would be a fool not to make that fight.:patsch

UMM no. Wat a tyt of a thing to say.which of these fighters you mentioned is a shot2shyte 40something?

they are all prime or near prime, not 40something shot2shyte.

Its Klitchko who is defending agains the retirees (and losing in seconds), not anyone else in history. JUST K bros.

The truth is the exact opposite of what you claim.

Everything surrounding Briggs since the Wlad-Leapai fight has been staged. Do the math.

I believe that the ONLY reason the fight hasn't happened is due to HBO realizing how farcical it is and not wanting it included as part of their 3-fight deal with Wlad. I still think that K2 has invested too much into keeping Briggs up for all of this time. As soon as the fight gets announced for Germany, then everybody will see that it was all staged.

    Great post.

I think Jennings qualifies as Wlad's gimmie fight. Old man Briggs probably has a better chance than the novice Jennings.
Wlad's next fight should be against someone a little better. I know the talent pool is shallow but fighting a senior citizen right after fighting a novice looks bad. If Wlad wants to do a bum of the month club, he should fight more often. He could rack up lke 50 defenses with this kind of "opposition".

Would have enjoyed Wlad vs Briggs like 10 years ago. Would have given The Cannon a slim punchers chance back then too.

HBO was scouting Tyson Fury as the next opponent. It's refreshing to know that even the network realizes how worthless current Briggs is. I support their refusal to not go along with making a mockery of the sport. Look who Briggs is fighting these days. Look at how his "rank" was inexplicably attained from fighting absolute bums (a promoter clearly financed that). He's old, has 1 round stamina, and took one of the worst beatings ever witnessed in the sport 5 years ago to a Klitschko (Vitali) already.

Since October 2010, Briggs hasn't even had a real fight against a worthy contender -- not even a decent one. Everything about a Wlad-Current Briggs fight would be 100% fraudulent. The only way Briggs should get a shot is if he legitimately earns it. He needs to fight two top 10 guys and win imo, but he's made all kinds of excuses about that.

this is probably more realistic than your claim that Wlad owns the WBO and sets up his own mandatories :rofl

Klaus Khol worked for both K2 and the WBO.
