Briggs can still compete. Not in the top 10 or against a Klitschko, but he could be a good gate keeper.

I can't believe this **** about Briggs not getting paid. I'm sure that most of the blame belongs to Briggs to signing documents he shouldn't have (i mean he's obviously an intelligent dude so he ought to be able to take responsibility for himself). However it does look like some slimy dudes, who are unfortunately close to the K-Bros, did take advantage of him to some extent. I remember thinking that when Briggs went to the fancy hospital that I hope all this is covered by the K-Bros. If not, I was thinking that Hamburg hospital would have waved the fees cause they got good publicity out of Briggs but apparently not. Bad mojo for boxing.

Briggs can do what he wants but I won't be buying a PPV or going out of my way to watch him fight.

i remember reading about how Briggs made so little and it looked like a combination of stupidity by Briggs (who doesn't appear dumb) and some shady tactics by suits (including i think shelly finkel if i'm not mistaken). as others said, shame he made so little but again he appeared partly to blame and you can argue against a great payday when u qualify for the fight by beating a couple of stiffs

shannon should value his health, but if he fights he should look to fight somebody not named klitchko that actually has some type of pedigree/name so he can make some descent money w/o risking what's left of his brain

Depends how high the physical toll becomes playing the gate keeper. The pounding Vitali dished out to Briggs won't make him stronger.

One of the things I hate the most in boxing is when a guy talks himself into a title fight. It's a capitalist society and all that, and we all have the right to self-promote, but I hate it when sanctioning bodies, promoters, and others buy into it.

I'd have no problem if Briggs went and knocked out a top ten guy and earned a shot. No problem. But what I hate is the whole Hasim Rahman Makeover that happens, when a guy is rewarded for beating up a couple of tomato cans in a row, and then gets a shot.
In Briggs' case it's probably totally a moot point anyway, because his loss to Vitali I think is seen as one of the worst beatings IN HISTORY and thus no one will buy him as a challenger ever again, unless he went and knocked out a Povetkin or a Helenius or someone of that ilk.

No argument here. The Ref/corner not stopping the fight cut his career short. Though it has been a pretty long career, so who knows to what extent.

Agree, he received a terrible beating, a one sided thrashing in which the referee should have protected him from his bravery. He had no quit in him in that fight and impossible for me to see him leading a normal life let alone fighting again.

  14. Briggs was considered a nobody 13 years ago when Foreman kicked his butt but when Vitali fights a washed up Briggs he gets credit. Hilarious. Briggs should retire not because of what Vitali did but because he let some overrated Frankenstein joke like Vitali beat him in the first place

Line Briggs up with Chauncy Welliver. Chauncy is not the hardest hitter in the division but he would easily outwork Briggs and probably come close to sweeping every round. Hopefully Briggs could lose that match without being hospitalized and move on with his life. Maybe as a bouncer or something at a strip club.
