So lemme get this straight. One is coming off wreaking some KO1 havoc on an Oceanic regional-level padded-record bum on Dave freaking TV, and the other is coming off a string of eight victories over fighters so bad none of them were televised, anywhere - but they're going to headline the O2?
Everybody chill. Not the OP's fault necessarily. There is precedent for BR editors jumping the gun and posting information that isn't fully verified. (or posting stuff they weren't supposed to make public yet) Let's wait it out and see if this has legs. Even if nothing comes of it, the OP could have indeed just spotted a gaffe on the part of the editors over there.
It would sell out. 3mil watched him assault that cowering aussie fella. 2nd highest viewing figures ever on that channel, for its very first sporting event, along with 16k attendance. Haye is somehow still a draw. I guess it's the renewed attention HW is getting here. Also his lustrous hair. Plus Briggs has done a good job in his own special way of keeping himself in public consciousness, albeit more as a minor celebrity than a boxer.
I don't get why people dislike this fight so much. If Haye doesn't fight Briggs, he's going to fight some nobody like Michael Wallisch. I'd prefer Briggs over that German bum any day of the week. At least the build up entertainment and the likely face off (gloves are off w/ Nelson) will be top notch.
Haye has had this planned with Briggs all along, the fight was agreed before he left for the UK. Look at the publicity and buzz its already created, Haye sure knows how to sell a fight.
It may just for the circus freak show appeal, but what a disgrace to boxing it would be. Look at their paths to getting there since each fought a K2 bro. Haye: Loss to Wladimir Klitschko ---> layoff of more than a year ---> victory over Chisora ---> layoff of 3½ years ---> KO1 De Mori on freaking Dave TV. Briggs: Loss to Vitali Klitschko ---> KO1 bum, non-televised ---> KO1 bum, non-televised ---> KO1 bum, non-televised ---> UD12 bum, non-televised ---> KO1 bum, non-televised ---> KO1 bum, non-televised ---> KO1 bum, non-televised ---> KO2 bum, non-televised. :gsg
Well yes, it's a silly fight, but I don't really have anything against it, unless of course it's upgraded to title fight status in the wake of Lucas' **** up / fix up. They both want a pay day (maybe the tagline on 'Dave' this time will be 'Haye day 2: Paye day - part 1'). This works for both parties. If people want to watch it, fine. I'm not sure they really deserve it, although Cannon's certainly put the media work in, but I'll never begrudge a profession boxer getting an obscene amount of money, fair or otherwise.
The fight itself actually doesn't bother me, but it makes for an incredibly silly 02 arena headlining fight, given their respective trajectories since their K2 losses. Neither has done a goddamn thing lately to merit being either half of a top-billed match at such a big venue.
