Wow things couldn't have fallen into place better for Briggs, he'll never get a better chance to win a title, even if it's the WBA's mickey mouse regular title.

Briggs is shot, so, so shot but Oquendo at 43 is only 2 years younger and will have been inactive for almost 3 years by the time the fight happens, so it's likely Oquendo will be just as shot. Briggs at least has been some what active having fought once last year.

This is a terrible match up for boxing, one where the blame should rest upon the shoulders of the WBA. Has there ever been a worst match up for a heavyweight title? And whoever wins may very well find themselves down the line fighting against whoever the WBA super champion is, or forced to fight someone dangerous like Ortiz. A shot mid forties heavyweight against a big hitting top heavyweight would be a horrible mismatch, neither Oquendo or Briggs can do what Foreman did, hell prime Briggs couldn't beat the worst version of Foreman without a dodgy decision.

Should have been Fres Oquendo versus Deontay Wilder. But no the WBA are biased towards the greatness of the bronze bomber.

I mean, I'll watch it through a kind of perverse interest in watching old men fight.

For a world title though? What a world we live in

Briggs must be disappointed with this as even if he beats Oquendo then he has to face Ustinov in what will no doubt be another low key, low paying fight.

His plans of sailing off into the sunset with a wheelbarrow full of cash are looking less and less likely to come to pass with each WBA announcement.

Hope Briggs wins and then waves his WBA trinket in front of Haye's face.

I wonder what happened to Eddie Hearn's plans for Shannon Briggs? IFL filmed a meeting between the two where Eddie said he would get him some fights on an undercard on Sky.
I'm think Briggs literally just wants one of the belt holders to gift him a voluntary on PPV of a **** ton of $$$, which probably isn't gonna happen.

    I think he beats Oquendo.

Briggs wants to fight Oquendo in the UK.

"Dreams do come true and it's finally time, there's history in the making," Briggs said.

"I am looking forward to winning the title and making a lot of people see that it can be done. I would love for the fight to be in London. It would be great for it to be in the UK, anywhere in the UK. Manchester or Scotland would be a great place to have this. To be honest, I have been working for this for a long time and I would take it anywhere, but London would be great."

This fight would have been an eye sore in the early-mid 2000s when both guys were still considered legitimate contenders....
