As it was waved off you could see Tunde saying to Yarde ‘I don’t wanna see you get hurt’. That’s what you want from your corner, the fighters are so brave they don’t need brave cornermen too
Yarde wanted out that's why he looked to his corner. His corner knew it so pulled him. I think if anything he wanted the ref to call it.
I'd be interested to know what he said in the corner to Tunde after the knockdown, I think Yarde was good to go on when the ref stopped it and I don't think he wanted out. Both fighters were tired at this point however the momentum was obviously with Bertabiev. You could see by Bertabiev's relief on the fight being stopped that he was feeling the pace of the fight too. If Yarde could have stuck in there and nicked one of the last 4 rounds he was in with a very good chance of a SD victory according to the official scorecards. With the knockdown however there was no point to carry on given the punishment being taken.
Yarde impressed me alot last night. Great chin as he took some heavy punches. Whenever Bertabiev unloaded a flurry, Yarde did well to respond with one or two of his own punches. Round 4 and 5 were great to watch.
I know it's only January but I would be surprised if there will be a better fight this year.Great effort from Yarde against a real beast of a light heavyweight.
Personally for me it was a little early. Yarde didn’t seem to complain so guess he was in agreement with it though.
When he got up he turned away from the ref and walked to his corner. He was lucky to get away with that and I think Ajayi knew it. He may have (just about) had his feet under him but he was in cloud cuckoo land.
I thought that at first also, watching again I'm not sure he knew too much about what was happening let alone what he wanted from the ref. He was just about spent for sure but I never saw a quit job.
Watch it again. My initial reaction was live was he was looking for a out. I was of the opinion even when he was winning early rounds he was feeling the power.
How is that relevant? He isn’t saying Yarde didn’t put a great shift in, just that he was still in the fight and had his faculties so it seemed a bit early. Better to be too early than too late though.
