That would work fine, unification fights are always a big thing (well they used to be, SRL-Hearns 1 being an example) so we can keep that but no more belts & definitely 15 rds... that more than anything is what is needed most.
when you are so physically tired you risk greater chance of permanent damage, the old school guys used to do it but theres a reason it was cut down
I can't imagine the first Ali-Frazier, the Thrilla in Manilla, Duran-Leonard I, or Leonard -Hearns I ,any less than 15 rounds. A lot of the most dramatic and fascinating moments in boxing history have come in those last three rounds. A lot of the more modern fights would have been a lot different outcomes if they were 15 rounds. DeLaHoya and Trinidad for example. In fact, seeing how he gassed out towards the end of 12 rounders, DLH doesn't seem like a 15 round fighter , and may not have been as successful .Guys like Mayweather and Pacquaio could go 15, probably even 20. 15 certainly seperates the true ATG's from the pretenders.
Which division do you think would "die out" if heavyweight and super heavyweight was split up? I think we'd run into the same trouble if heavyweight is the one that took the back seat. You have guys now (Eddie Chambers comes to mind) who would be a much better Cruiser than Heavy. If the Super Heavy division was seen as the "premiere" of the 2 divisions I think you'd have guys fattening themselves up (hell we'd never get Arreola under 250 then..lol) just to make the division and water it down as well.
Love the idea of one champion (I'd prefer The Ring Lineal Championship since they usually determine the #1 guy by at least 2 of the top 3 in the division fighting for the honor. Not a fan of 15 rounds though. 12 is perfect.
1 belt, 1 champ, period. I also think we should have an ODD number of rounds. be it 13 or 15. This would eliminate the draw possibility and we could get a def winner.
It's getting so bad that I'd almost settle for one champion per organisation. The WBA are about to crown their third "champion" in the Middleweight division. One title per weight class would immediately restore a tremendous amount of integrity to boxing. Add fewer weight classes and 15 rounds and boxing would be just about perfect. I agree with Ech110 - if you feel 15 rounds is too much, make it 13 rounds to greatly decrease the possibility of a draw.
