It was Duran's own choice to quit and get outboxed. Sugar also fought Hagler with basically one eye? Hagler is just a big crybaby who loves nothing but an excuse.
Tyson would be greater for boxing overall, the crossover star who would bring a level of interest to boxing from the wider public that we haven't seen for decades. But as a hardcore fan it would be great to see Leonard come in and clear out the welterweight division, though in reality we'd probably have a similar stalemate as they all avoid Leonard. So Leonard coming back probably wouldn't change anything.
Nah its A side deck stacking. Timing of the fight and all the conditions, judges and everything in your favour. If Leonard fought today he would be like Floyd and Canelo. So rather have Tyson.
He would wreak havoc on the whole division honestly. For the short time he can stay sane or appear as so.
Surgery left his eyes working fine. One eye lol the guy got everything he wanted for that fight after ducking for years. And is literally ON FILM saying that the only reason he fought Marvin was because he had obviously declined. If spence came out in a years time and said he is fighting crawford because crawford has obviously slipped and isn't in his prime anymore he would be ripped to shreds....but because SRL is an atg he gets a pass? Bull**** as far as I'm concerned.
Well no one was twisting Hagler's arm to fight. He could've just said nah and moved up (we all know hagler was scared to move up)
Leonard. Tyson was better to watch but theres no one in the HW division would last more than a few rounds with him whereas the 147 division has some great fights for SRL and he would mix it up well with them
Jesus Christ. Not every fighter has to move up. The guy walked around at middleweight. He looked up to people like Monzon and wanted to get a bunch of titles defenses at the weight. Imagine being ok with SRL admitting to two things making him finally fight Hagler: firstly that he had confessed to Leonard whilst Leonard was "retired" that his heart wasn't in it anymore....secondly seeing that Hagler looked much slower in his last couple fights. Leonard set the blueprint for fighters to act like divas and age people out.
He should never have been given the 168/175 WBC strap for beating Lalonde that was pathetic, he should have rematched Hearns instead of fighting Bruce Finch. He should have fought Hagler instead of retiring and instead of waiting till after the Mugabi fight.
I agree except Leonard at one point was as famous as Tyson was in the US, he was even famous in the UK where I live.
