I used to love to hear rd 13 and the last 3 rds of a great fight was a true test...Love to see them come back to quality fight fights but a boring one can be a *****...but it will benifit better conditioned fighters...thoughts
I think we'd certainly see better conditioned heavyweights. They couldn't carry all the bulk they do today and go 15 rds. There would probably be a shift towards old school training as well. Less emphasis on weights and new age supplements and more on old fashioned tried and tested training to go the extra 3 rds. Incidentally, we'd probably see smaller HW's.
That would be of great benefit. but then again it could just mean another 3 rounds of hugging and holding with an occasional punch thrown.
12 rounds is horse****. The rule change was pathetic at the time and remains so. Twelve rounds cheapens title bouts.
The worst offense committed against boxing ever, was the reduction of championship fights to 12 rounds. The 15 round title limit needs to be restored yesterday, IMO. 15 rounds seperates the men from the boys and is an artform in itself, virtually, as the great fighters of history knew how to calculate their fight plans and strategies through the conservation of their strength and stamina to those critical rounds 13 thru 15. When to lie back, when to turn it on over the long haul...I've seen so many examples...and it would surely cause more fighters to prepare themselves more and be more dedicated in training in the process. Fat, flabby out of shape heavyweights, in particular, would be weeded out.
Sometimes the last three rounds WERE boring...good, smart boxing IS sometimes boring, but sometimes it was just the opposite, as witnessed by the Holmes-Norton bout, one tof the very best modernday heavyweight bouts, and Larry Holmes' best performance, especially in round 15.
:good Fat, flabby out of shape heavyweights, in particular, would be weeded out.[/quote]:good When you see a master in a 15 rd fight and how he paces himself ...when the bell sounds for 13, those last 3 rds are a thing of beauty...Save it for the title fights but 15 is a test of greatness and lets face it you must come prepared....
I think the gaint heavyweights would be a thing of the past if this happen for the most part. Sure there might should be the Kilt brothers perhaps(And I not even sure Wlad can go 15) But for the most part the 200 pounders will return to reclaim the divison imo. Speed and reflexs will return over the bigger and stronger man in the ring imo. Since they kinda of wear out in the later rounds like the old gaints did.
I think we should go a step further. Bring back the fight to a finish/ 45 rounders.... Take tomorrow morning's fight... We are lucky (this time) in England; we are getting it for nothing, but why should the Americans pay big money, for what may turn out to be a controversial 12 rounder? Surely if you are paying $50+ for a PPV, you should at least except a conclusive finish or three hours of entertainment that a 45 rounder would bring?
