Rios is a natural welter weight.

But you admit that ortiz woud have an advantage due to the weight?

That doesn't matter. Like I told people who were picking Katsidis over Guerrero; Robert is a natural welter too. The guy is huge, but he fights at the lower weights because his camp knows he can't compete at his natural weight.

This is why Robert has had spotty performances and stamina issues. Because when he is not careful about his weight in between fights it hurts him in his camps.

Rios needs to make his mark at 135lb because it will be his best weight. His 140lb success will be dictated on whether he picks up nuances of his craft to compete against faster and larger guys. Guys closer to his natural size.

But welter I guarantee you is out of the question for him.

I don't think the weights would matter that much. Rios is physically fit at 152. He has to starve and dehydrate himself to get down to 135. He is actually weaker and less competitive at 135. Jr welter would a more natural weight for him. He fights at 135 but he punches like a welter weight.

Brandon has struggled to get below 140 for a couple of years now. He was on target at the weigh in, around 135 but weighed unofficially 152 the night of the Petterson fight. He gained 17 pounds in just 24 hours. Look at that fight, He was a lean mean fighting machine

Before the Berto fight, the causal fan would have gone with Ortiz. The hard core boxing fan would have gone with Rios. After this fight however, Ortiz has picked up a lot of hard core fans. Me being one of them. I never thought Ortiz had that in him. He really did fight like a man possessed. His former amateur trainer told me he had never seen Victor fight like that. Berto was over whelmed from round one on.
