SM beats Cotto and pretty handidly you ask me....SM is pretty accurate and Cotto is still just to easy to find....not to mention SM has very good speed and very good power. SM is also actually a pretty slick fighter...Cotto cuts easy now days as well. Just not a good matchup

Cotto's jab < Martinez' counter right hook

I think Martinez is a stylistic nightmare for Miguel Cotto. Martinez is the bigger man with the longer reach (hence negating the Cotto jab) and he is a better boxer than Cotto. Cotto would be humilated in a fight with Sergio Martinez. It is best for Miguel to stay at 154 and quietly hope Sergio stays at 160.

Miguel would be competitive. I'm sure of it. But he loses.

No way are you crazy? Cotto doesn't have the power, speed, or defense to handle a fighter like Sergio. Cotto is one of my top 3 favs, but no way. He should fight fighters 154 and lower. I know Cotto won't duck anyone, but that is a fight I would not want to see. I'd rather see Cotto-Cintron, Chavez Jr, Canelo, Angulo, Kirkland, Berto, Mosley, etc. Fights he can win. The only other exception would be Floyd. At least he'd get outboxed by Floyd, but not left with a face looking like Shrek the third.

If Martinez is looking for a "stay busy" fight, he should go after Chavez Jr. from a risk/reward angle. TR would never allow it though.

What the hell!? Here it goes again. I love Cotto dude but seriously if its for MArtinez title it has to be at 160!!!! Otherwise if its for Cottos then sure they can do it at 154.

I think this fight is pretty winnable for him. Martinez is good but he is not really a boxer. He is unorthodox in what he does. A good boxer like Cotto would pose a challenge. I think Cottos jab is great and if used throughout the fight it could disrupt Martinez rythm. Lets not forget Cintron who is a robotic boxer did trouble Martinez at times with his boxing.
Cotto is much better. I would rather this one takes place at 154 if Martinez can still make it. It would give Cotto a better chance.

However my money will be on Martinez.

Martinez is in his prime, while I see Cottos best days behind him. I like Cotto, but I wouldn't want to see him against Martinez. I'd rather see Miguel fight Chavez Jr. or a rematch against Margo. Martinez is too much at this stage of his career.

I would rather see Cotto fight Chavez Jr or Martinez actually. I think Margarito does the same thing to him over and over again. The styles just dont benefit Cotto there. Martinez i think would decision Cotto and Cotto should beat Chavez Jr.

    Cotto would get spanked.

If Margo isn't available, Cotto should take the Cintron fight as both are winnable setting him up for another big fight late 2011.

    That's a serious avatar.

IMO Cintron-Cotto is 50-50. Kermit is very underrated.

I agree; both Cintron and Margo would be pretty close/even betting fights. This is the type of fight we need to see Miguel in next, esp coming off a long layoff.

Not fair to throw him in one where he would be a significant underdog.

My avatar is dead serious. I have to go back in my history and figure out how long I have to keep it (either 1 or 3 months)... :verysad

Personally, I really want the Cotto-Chavez fight to come off, as long as JCC can make it back down to 154.

good scrap. Martinez does not apply pressure like Margarito so it would be a technical fight.

Cotto is a good technical fighter and he lost to Margarito because margarito just walk him down with pressure. People forget cotto was winning the fight in the first half of that fight.

I don't think Martinez' power is great. Sure he KOed Williams but that was not what Martinez does. Williams was just crazy trying to crowd and slug with Martinez - really a stupid strategy for a fighter with 82 inches reach.

If this fight is gonna happen, it should be at 154 since Cotto is relatively smaller than Martinez, but not much.
