..two fights Crawford dominates, IMO. Stylistically he is a complete nightmare for both of them. At that point he's undisputed and what's even left? Figueroa? Pacquiao will have no choice but to stay retired or face him (or finish up at WW, and Thurman's lurking up there...)
Remember when he was briefly a potential P4P star to some fans just a few years ago? It's crazy how fast things change, and then look in retrospect.
Two mismatches. Given his fight night weight, I don't think Bud will be staying @ 140 for much longer. So Thurman and Spence are the interesting fights for him.
I dunno. He is 28, and was making LW as recently as twenty months ago. I think he can move up to welter and be effective (and be a player in the mix automatically), certainly, but not sure he needs to, despite the 157lbs rehydration. Do we know what his FN weights have been previously in his light welter campaign? In the same ballpark? He can probably squeeze out another year, enough to put all 4 belts together, which is easy work for him on paper and great for the legacy. After that, however, yeah, pretty much every remotely appealing payday will have dried up and it will be time for a climb - not because he can't make the weight anymore but to get those big names awaiting him one division north.
Terence Crawford vs Andrey Klimov - contested at Lightweight Crawford: 149 - Klimov: 140 Terence Crawford vs Yuriorkis Gamboa - contested at Lightweight Crawford: 152 - Gamboa: 145 Terence Crawford vs Raymundo Beltran - Contested at Lightweight Crawford: 153 - Beltran: 147 Terence Crawford vs Hank Lundy - contested at Light-welterweight Crawford 155 - Lundy 151 IIRC, he was 155 against Dierry Jean for their fight at 140
Troyanovsky/Broner/Figueroa/Lipinets (obviously this is highly optimistic; boxing politics means we should be lucky to get even two of the four) and then a jump up to beat Thurman would make for a 1st ballot HOF resume, conceivably as young as 30. Doubly impressive since he only really burst onto the scene and fought his first significant opposition three years ago (despite having turned pro eight years ago)
Why not Matthysse? 140 frankly is one of the worst divisions in boxing. If Lucas gets just one comeback fight to get his confidence, I'd love to see him test Crawford's chin. He was bothered by Gamboa's power, so it would be really impressive if he can outbox a guy with Matthysse's chin-crushing power. Otherwise, any of the top 15 welters would be way better than anything at 140. Pacquiao, Thurman, Garcia, Khan, Spence, Felix Diaz would all be legitimate threats. Realistically, as all the good young welterweights are Haymon fighters he'll probably fight Troyanovsky then Pac.
I'm probably Matthysse's biggest (and certainly longest-running) fan on here, but sadly I think he is done...and would get badly hurt & embarrassed if he stepped in with TC.
Burns? Crawford thrashed him already. I mean, credit to Ricky for snapping his rough 1-3-1 skid (which should have been 1-4; he lost to Beltran...another Crawford victim) and putting three stoppages together culminating in scooping up a vacant belt versus Di Rocco, but he is hardly in anybody's way of supremacy in the weight class.
