Brit Forum - Are we becoming too elitist?

got to this post in the thread, and i actually laughed out loud in my own living room. "throw hands" funny as ****!

i think the elitism that people think is present on here is just down to somebodies post count, as when i joined, i felt "not as good" as someone with 1k plus posts. Now i know that doesn't mean ****. I mean i had a brief discussion with tffp who has 14k plus posts today about froch v kessler. I am just as knowledgable as some andnot as much as other. But post count juust shows how often you post, not how much you know. The brit forum rock, and shits all over the general.

But people like you thunder, will always get shat on anywhere if you talk to people like that on a regular basis.

Just saw this post, and i struck me that maybe this is the type of elitism people speak of. To a noob, getting a PM from you, as 12k plus poster, greeting them to the forum, aren't they automatically going to consider that you are someone of a certain authority on this forum by virtue of the fact you are welcoming them to the forum?

For the record I think the members in the get along gang do talk to eachother more, but what do you expect? You go for a drink with your mate and he has his mates that you haven't met before, who do you talk to more in the beginning? If you have something good to say you'll get a good reply back, and if you have a genuine question it'll get answered.

 

That can work both ways, depends on the nature of the person on the receiving end of the PM.

I'd say that most decent newbies have been well received and ''fitted in'' ok with the more seasoned posters.

I can't remember being given any stick during my early months on the board, then again the volume was a lot higher with plenty of discussion about Joe Cortez and Hatton ducking Witter.... plus I spent a few weeks learning etiquette in the General, and didn't really start threads for quite a while. I'm sure that to this day, I start less threads than most posters.

The only time a thread pisses me off is when someone wants to have a rant and does it in the thread title and puts **** all within the post content.... troll threads are fine in moderation - though they're usually on the general as well.....

There probably does seem to be quite a lot of banter on the board to a new poster - given that most people have been on a while and several have met at fights and/or the Bunce Live events.

 

Never really noticed any elitisim on this board. Quite often however if a 'noob' gets noticed its because he's being a dick. Normal ones don't draw as much attention to themselves I suppose.

 

Any poster with a genuine passion for the sport gets well received. If you act like a knob you get treated like a knob. Simple really.

 

Ive definitely experienced some elitism on the Brit forum which is a shame as it generally has some posters with a lot of knowledge.
Trouble is some people really know it.

On one occassion i've even been told by a poster im "obviously not a fan of boxing" because I didn't know some obscure banal fact about a particular fighter. He was then then joined by a few others who decided to laugh and point the finger also.

It was like a group of 12 year olds in the ****ing playground!

Personally Id like to come here and have a good chat about my favourite sport without any ****. There's always gonna be a bit of ribbing which is fair enough but some people do take their own opinions far to seriously.

Claypole is particularly savage when it comes to taking a noob down a peg or two, I've noticed:-(

 

i haven't seen the "you are not a real boxing fan" line too often on the british forum....its used like in every thread on the general though.

 

Cronyism and bullying definitely occurs.

 

Or "true boxing fans know that....."
