Brit forum opinion: What would you want from a new boxing magazine?

    Hi guys,

    I'd really value your input here. I would like to know what you would want to see from a new boxing magazine.

    What matters to you the most? Are the current crop of boxing mags cutting the mustard? Would you like certain traditions kept or would you like to see a fresh and different angle approached, particularly with regards to fighter interviews?

    I know the boxing magazine format may be dying in some people's eyes but what do they do right and what do they do wrong in your opinion?

    Like I said any feedback would be very much appreciated.

    I get Boxing News and all in all I think it's excellent although I guess I would like more pages of news instead of some of the feature pieces

    It is going to be a magazine you can pick up in the shops or on a website...:think.

    I used to buy my boxing magazines but now I tend to surf the net for free and get all the stuff I need, between them all there are enough sites to pick everything up...:good

    I would like to see a good balanced spread on the amateur scene, broken down by region. Gives each region a decent space to focus on their own reporting...:good

    I guess more investigative pieces - I like features, but I'd like stuff that looks at the industry, at whether fighters are coming into their prime, who's the best in the weightclass, who's on the slide. There was a great article in The Ring about whether Cotto was on the slide - stuff like that. It could get opinions from trainers and other fighters, including former opponents.

    Most of all, it'd be great to see it from a domestic perspective that wasn't just flag-waving.

    But I don't think we need more boxer interviews unless there's something really different to say about them.

    I'm pretty new to the sport so really enjoy the articles on fighters of yester-year.

    The Mugabi interview in the last boxing monthly is a good example.

    we could get to know the ring girls:hey. something fun, maybe a weekly quiz or something, also more on prospects, the more we get to them them the bigger the exposure, or the other way round :blurp

    I like the slightly "out there" articles maybe on a fighter from the 60s who I know a bit about but not too much, a fringe contender from the 80s or a piece about an old bare knuckler (just examples rather than concrete suggestions).

    What I don't really look for in a magazine is fight reports and results, the Internet has taken over that role for me these days. I know a magazine has to cover its sport but I like that side, if not kept down to a minimum, then at least well down the pecking order of importance.

    i'm a big boxing news fan,I enjoy the ritual of going to the shop and picking up a copy,which is something that the internet can't match.
    in terms of what a new boxing mag could do
    ;more photographic spreads would be great
    ;ringsiders opinons to accompany fight reviews
    ;fans opinons on upcoming fights
