Aye, I'd be happy enough with that

Sounds good to me, Losfer. I've not seen those fights for a few years so would love to get my teeth back into them.

Watching the fight live at the time, with mates, (without scoring it) I had the impression that kessler had won by "two or three" of rounds. I found it to be much closer on second viewing

So, is everyone else who hasn't yet replied happy with the Morales-Barrera tripleheader proposal then? Also, Gaz, it's your turn to choose a 'classic' fight, mate. You came up with a few suggestions before, but now you have to make your final decision. Remember, whichever fight you choose needs to at least be available for all to view on Youtube, though.

I've updated the first page again. This time I've added the original results of the fights as well as it shows the forum's contrast/ agreement in scoring with the original outcome.

    Cheers.

This surely can't be it? Everyone has until 15:00 to post a scorecard if they want to. I can't believe even fewer people have participated this time:lol:.

Gaz is uploading the next vid for us on Youtube as we speak. I know which fight it is, but he's going to do an introduction so I'll leave it to him.

    Next up....

    Meldrick Taylor vs. Howard Davis.

This fight is a neglected part of Taylors career given his future achievements and "that" fight against Chavez but it kicked up quite a lot of controversy at the time.

Howard Davis was the 1976 Olympic Lightweight gold medalist and winner of the Val Barker trophy for the outstanding boxer of The Games. He'd narrowly lost both his world title challenges on points, one to Scotlands Jim Watt and the other to the power punching Puerto Rican Edwin Rosario. At age 30 he was thought to be talented but past his best and no more that an interesting test for the unbeaten prospect and 1984 Olympic gold medalist, 19 year old Meldrick Taylor.

Amid discussions over which was the better Olympic team, the 1976 squad with Davis, Sugar Ray Leonard and the Spinks bothers or the class of '84 that included Taylor, Pernell Whitaker, Mark Breland and Evander Holyfield, the two fighters met on 16th August 1986 for a fight fittingly billed as "Gold vs. Gold"......

    Results:

    #6: Froch - Kessler

    ellaineo: 114-114 EVEN
    Godfather: 117-114 Froch
    robpalmer135: 114-114 EVEN
    Wickio: 115-113 Froch
    ishy: 115-114 Kessler
    ultimate buzz: 114-114 EVEN
    SandyCraddock: 114-114 EVEN
    D-MAC: 116-114 Kessler
    Losfer_Words: 115-114 Kessler

Out of the 9 who scored the fight, 3 scored it for Kessler and 2 scored it for Froch. Four scorecards were EVEN.

Brit Forum Average Scorecard: Froch 114.4 - 114.3 Kessler

Quite amazing results, really. I know a few Froch fans have posted scorecards, but I am still surprised he's actually got the final nod given most people on the forum felt that Kessler won at the time.
    _____

    My scorecard:
    1- Froch
    2- Kessler
    3- Kessler
    4- Froch
    5- Froch
    6- Kessler
    7- Kessler
    8- Kessler
    9- EVEN
    10- Kessler
    11- Froch
    12- Froch

    115-114 Kessler.

I still feel a bit frustrated watching it now. Kessler deservedly won and I am still left with the feeling that Froch was a little lazy with his performance given when he turned the pressure up, he was catching Kessler. Kessler was more disciplined and far more accurate in this fight as well, IMO. I remember at the time thinking Kessler was a few rounds up as well, so I'm a little surprised by my own scorecard, if I'm honest, but that's the way I saw it.
    _____

Thanks to Gaz for uploading the new fight onto Youtube. The weekly fight update format is returning as of this week and after Taylor-Davis there is going to be a Morales-Barrera tripleheader as there were no voices of dissent when I originally put the idea forward; there were also no other suggestions for fights to score at the time either. Any suggestions for future fights are welcome. Cheers:thumbsup

Really surprised by that. Despite my views on the fight, I seem to remember the reaction on here was almost overwhelmingly unanimous that Kessler had won comfortably. Shame we didn't get more results, but an eye-opening exercise nonetheless.

Love this thread, gonna keep posting cards. :good

    Taylor 1,2,5,7,10
    Davis 3,4,6,8,9

    5-5 Draw

Good ring generalship by Davis, good bodywork by Taylor. Very good fight. Felt like Davis changed his strategy in the 10th and tried to "run out the clock" and then steal it add the end. This cost him the win IMO.

Wow, I found this one real tough to score. I just think Davis got marginally outworked in a few of the very tight rounds, even though he showed some excellent footwork and acurate punching.
