Brit Forum: Should HBO Have A UK Station?

Absolutely, I've also wondered this.

They must think British boxing is very popular given the amount of fans Hatton has brought over, even Calzaghe brought a very good number....
Although I'm not sure they would make enough money from a subscription service for other tv shows given the fact they would lose money from selling their shows to the other UK channels for the rights (only speculation of course, I have no idea how much they make from that)

Whether a boxing only service would be worth it? I dont know, I plus point for them would be getting the very best on their channel instead of Sky for the UK and gettin the PPV for them....If it was HBO PPV or SKY PPV for the top UK boxers then it would be obvious who they would pick, because HBO have the USA market.

Hopefully Primetime goes somewhere, I would love a subscription type channel for boxing

You would think they would be willing to chance their arm in some way.

I doubt it costs too much to have a TV channel put on Sky with programmes on a tape delay.

 

Without a shadow of a doubt I'd sign for that. So far 17-0. Who'll be the first to say no?

 

HBO in the UK would be a dream and i would happily pay up to 30 quid.

they are famous for their original programming not just boxing (curb your enthusiasm is my favourite show)

 

obviously its a nice idea but HBO primarily show movies and big TV shows, there are HBO channels in Asia but they dont show any boxing or other kinds of Sport. If HBO came to the UK they would been taking on Sky1 and Sky Movies, have to sink a massive amount of money to do that and the boxing would get much less viewers than all the movies and entertainment they would be about so they would probably see live boxing as small potatoes and not bother like they do in all their other foreign markets.

 

Defo, I have no problem paying for good fights. Or paying a subscription for a channel that has a decent coverage of boxing.

HBO have a channel in the Philippines and it doesnt show any boxing and obviously boxing is an even bigger deal there. Promoters own broadcast rights, not networks so HBO would have to paying the going market rate and more than anyone else is willing to pay the promoters in order to show their own broadcasts in the UK.

 

I would watch this no doubt.

 

It would be too good to be true.

At the very least I wish they would make their fights that aren't shown over here, available to British fans via their website. Could be a subscription or whatever. There really is a tasty little market right there for the taking. As the situation stands we are missing out on so many great fights and it sucks. It's all very well HBO cracking down on the streams, but us British folk don't even have the option of paying to see these contests.

 

Would be great........................any new boxing would be great.
