honestly ive got no respect for the guy,he doesnt deserve any big fights,im hoping casa ****s him up:good

 

Overrated. Some quality attributes (handspeed, movement, chin has held up well in the two fights with Funeka, took some bombs in the first fight and staggered only a few times) but lacks certain intangibles (power, desire) to be considered a truly formidable opponent IMO.

Standout win: the decision over Soto.

In an era with one champ he wouldn't be one IMO. There are countless fighters throughout history I'd pick to heat him handily too.

 

The most gifted fighter in the history of the sport.

He has it all, apart from maybe power at these weights.

 

Is that on? When and at what weight? 140 I assume, which means Guzman will probably tip the scales as a light middle

I would've loved to have seen Guzman make a mockery of Valero at super feather :deal

EAST London boxer Ali Funeka’s chances of fighting for a world title have been placed in jeopardy after the fighter tested positive for a banned substance.

Funeka failed a post-fight doping test in Las Vegas where he fought, and lost, an International Boxing Federation title fight against Joan Guzman recently.

His troubles were compounded when news broke he had contravened the Nevada Athletic Commission’s doping rules.

Boxing website ***********.com wrote Funeka “tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide after his fight with Joan Guzman, which took place on March 27 and was televised by HBO”.

“Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic on the Nevada Athletic Commission’s banned substance list. Fighters often use diuretics to increase their rate of urination, which assists them in losing weight, but the use of diuretics are prohibited by the Nevada commission”, the website stated. Funeka faces the possibility of a suspension and fine when the commission meets on Friday.

Funeka’s manager Butityi Konki admitted his boxer had taken a tablet containing the drug, but denied it was done in a devious manner.

“We dispute any inference of wrongdoing on our part. That drug was not for anything other than to help Ali on his long trip to the States,” he said.

“It was something that we got a prescription for, we did not buy it behind closed doors, our doctor said it is not on the list of banned substances,” he added.

His Johannesburg-based doctor, Dr Mark Blumberg, confirmed giving the prescription to Funeka. “The substance was in a tablet called Amiloretic, which we prescribed to Ali. He was given the tablets to help relieve water retention on his long flight to the United States.”

“Water retention is a common ailment in those situations and it often leads to pain in the body including the muscles,” he said.

Funeka left for the States on the 18th and fought Guzman on Saturday the 27th.

Blumberg added it could be that the commission suspected it could have been used to mask another drug, saying they would have detected it. He has since written to the commission to explain the reason behind him giving the prescription to Funeka. According to Boxing SA’s Loyiso Mtya, if the boxer was slapped with a ban it would have a bearing on his career.

Due to the fact the fight was sanctioned by the IBF, it would affect Funeka’s chances of fighting for future world title fights with the organisation.

“We have not received anything from them. In fact its news to me, but if it is so then it is unfortunate. We don’t have any jurisdiction but seeing as we cleared him to go and fight in the States we are bound by whatever decision is made that side,” he said. “It will not just be limited to Nevada and I believe the IBF could also be involved because they worked with the commission as the sanctioning body,” said Mtya. The news also raised questions around Funeka’s management of his weight, especially since hydrochlorothiazide is said not to stay in the body for longer than 20 hours. “It would be understandable for people to speculate along those lines because it means the drug was taken within 20 hours of the fight,” Mtya added. - By SABELO SKITI"

Very talented but very lazy.

 

Hugely talented but he's not as good at lightweight. Back in the day when he had a bit of pop to back up his skills he was exceptional. He's still good of course.

 

Any positives i had for Guzman rapidly went out the window when the ****in **** house weighed in 144 for a 135 lb fight , and was on the scales laughing about it !!!!!! , the ****in **** , id love to see Hatton come back and **** this **** !!!!!

 

Not sure that Hatton would beat Guzman now, and not sure if he could make 140. (Either of them for that matter)
