Brit Forums Thoughts on Oscar's Retirement?

I'm sad about it, he's been a massive part of boxing for a long time now and he'll leave a huge void.

 

I respect what he did many years ago in many divisions, always fighting the best.

He has displeased me immensely in recent years with his antics. There were better and more logical fights that he got in the way of with his big cheque book - like when I told people Manny Pac would kick his ass. I didn't want to see him fight Mayweather.

Plus he sounds *****.

Theres no doubt he is one of the best of recent years, but his retirement has been long overdue.

 

He has gone on for a bit too long but at least has now realised it's time to go. He's had a great career and has always fought the best. Now hopefully he continues his work as a promoter and keeps bringing us great fights.

 

A good decision for him & boxing.

 

Great fighter who has done a lot for the sport over the last 15 years. Glad to see he has retired and not have a joke fight with JCC Jr.

 

The 1990's overall in my opinion, is the greatest overall boxing generation of all-time..of all time's.

So great that 9 years into this decade, these athlete's that reshaped boxing inside the ring and outside of it, their legacy's are like a burning flame flickering voilently... burning up all the oxygen in the sport, until that flame..just can't burn no more. But never forgotten, people need to face facts. The ****ing sport is dead, and is never ever coming back to be what it once used to be, it's just not coming back. The last great heavyweights have gone, and the last great heavyweight champion i.e Lennox Lewis..the last man standing, is a distant memory.

And now Oscar De la hoya, a part of this greatest generation ever!

Has gone..!

The era is not truely over yet, James Toney..Bernard Hopkins..Shane Mosley..Roy Jone's Junior etc..

The 1990's live's on, it still live's on...but today..

With the news that Oscar De La Hoya has left the game, it is a sign that it is time..

That it is time mother ****er!!!

These legends have been at the crossroads, for to long.

It just not meant to happen like this...

 

bit of a catch 22

he kept the sport in the spot light post the great heavys (tyson,lewis)
gave massive paydays to other fighters
ducked no one and fought the best even when he shouldn't of


unhealthy influence with HBO
overshadowed other fighters/great fights as the casuals only looked to his fights
achievements not as great as his profile (fell short in all his big fights) mosley, hopkins, mayweather, pacquiao, trinidad (taking championship rounds off)

but overall good for the sport and will be missed, lets hope he developes the next generation with GBP

 

Good decision.

 

Its sad to see him go, and with him being by far the biggest piggy bank in the sport it may hurt boxing in the short term (which isn't good). But it was abit overdue to be honest, so better now than later.

And of course TFFP is right............................he does speak like a poof.

 

The fishnets were a bit of a give away as well.
