Brit Forums Thoughts on Oscar's Retirement?

Jeez I am pretty disapointed with his decision to retrire. I thought we were going to get to see Hatton fight a pound 4 pound legend and that Hatton would take his place in the rankings.

 

Not one of my favourites to follow but a LEGEND thats for sure.

Perhaps the single most overrated fighter, maybe sportsman, of a generation. A good but far from great fighter. Beneficiary of a couple of gift decisions, quit against Pacman and lost to most of the great fighters he faced. His performances in the ring against the best never backed up his clout outside of it.
it's good riddance to bad, phoney rubbish as far as i'm concerned. Sadly he's still gonna be at the forefront of the sport in his promotional, greedy pocket-lining stuff.

It was time to go, I know he would have wanted to go out on a win, but dragging the career out for that just isn't worth it, hes achieved what he was going to achieve in boxing.

Can see why a lot of people think that he lost to most of the great fighters he's faced, still a legend for me though.

 

Whether you love him or hate him, Oscar is probably the most significant fighter in the sport since Mike Tyson. The money & interest he generated pretty much leaves every other fighter in the shade.

Personally, I liked Oscar and thought he was a very good fighter. And you can't argue with his record, his resumé is a who's who of boxing of the last 20 years. Sure he lost a few, but where as somebody like Calzaghe has that coveted 0 in the losses column, nobody comes close to having a list of names that includes the likes of Whitaker, Hopkins, Mayweather, Mosley, Chavez, Trinidad, Vargas, Quartey, Pacquiao, Gatti, Mayorga, Camacho, Campas, Ruelas, Hernandez, Gonzalez, etc.
That's a hell of a list of names, and whether he won or lost it can't be deined he fought them all, and for that alone he deserves his little place in history.

I'm sad to see Oscar go. The time is right of course, but I was 12 when Oscar won his Olympic gold so he's been a part of boxing through all my growing up years and all my adult life, so to see the this chapter close hits home that time's flying by so fast and I'm getting older!

I will miss him. Thanks for the memories Oscar!

 

Truly great fighter treated us to some of the highest profile fights for many years and there was always drama. One of my favourite fighters ever.

I stick to my guns, he was a massively overrated fighter. I mean, look at the prices in the betting he was against a host of top fighters. 1/3 against SAugar Shane not just once but twice....unbelievable. The only thing i'll miss about the man in the ring is the chance to oppose him in the betting. Sure I lost sometimes but overall opposing DLH proved very profitable down the years, as time after time his performance in the ring never lived up to the hype and financial clout out if it.
And yeah, he's just about the most phoney and slimy individual in the world of sport....along with Sven.

 

What does that even mean? Sounds like cheap rhetoric to me along with other classics such as 'bottom line', 'fact' and 'period'.
