:think I'm guessing you mean hardcore fans?

I'd like to know what Boxing News and Boxing Monthly's circulations are. That'd give us an idea though obviously not every boxing fan buys those magazines these days.

I think there are a lot of casual boxing fans in this country and if advertised properly a lot of people would tune in on the BBC.

The amount of hardcore fans won't be that much, around 15-30,000 I'd guess.

Yep, 'not very many' would be my guess. The Beeb would need to tap into the general sports fan to make it worthwhile. A lot of people like watching boxing on TV without being harcore fans, it just has to be advertised properly.

Gaz, how popular was boxing 'back in the day' (no offence meant)? Was it up there with football?

 Wait til Greg sees that post!!!;)

As far as TV was concerned there was a lot less football on TV than there is now and more boxing so things were evened up. I'd say football was more popular because people follow their teams more than people follow specific boxers. Having said that, boxing was popular enough that most British champs were well known even amonst general sports fans (ask a sports fan to name even 1 these days!!) and in the papers reasonably often.

There was a survey done around thelate 90s/ early 90s that had boxing as most peoples second favourite sport, not the second favorite sport in total, just that football fans liked boxing, rugby fans liked boxing etc. as their second sport so I think the potential is there to attract that type of interested but not hardcore fan.

good idea, this should've been done a long time ago. "promoters" and influencial boxing people should get behind it and do whats best for the sport instead of wasting every column inch attacking other people in the business and as a result the whole sport.

A magazine or highlight show is the least the BBC should be giving us, particularly when you consider some of the garbage they put out on channels like bbc 3. The "license fee" is a f*cking scam

We all need to be part of this.
The power of the Bringmeback campaign shocked a lot of people. This can do the same. Trust me.
Ironically, I'm inside BBC Television Centre right now.
The monthly boxing show starts at 9pm tonight for an hour. It's on BBC Five Live.

    Adios.

    Great news!!

I was starting to wonder if the sports media industry gave a **** whether or not that boxing was suffering for coverage.

I know you get the odd article in Boxing monthly and News debating the state of the sport but it really needed a call to arms by everyone involved.

Notice how they have Hatton as their save British boxing on tv figure head on their front page:deal
Amazing how he's conned so many people into valuing his worth, must be some Uri Geller type individual.:hey
