I bet it was a fair few million and that could pay for quite a few decent televised cards - probably more events and better viewing figures than F1.

Cut the crap with the lottery, get dale winton and other z list twats off our ****ing teles and only show the actual draw instead of the stupid quizes. Casualty on for 50 mins then a 2.5-3 hour card followed by match of the day.

A few cans and a curry.

    Saturday nights - DONE!

    Same here:good.

In all seriousness, the BBC's reasons for not showing pro boxing are lacking a lot of credibility and smack of double standards compared to some of the tripe that they are prepared to fund to keep the majority of niche markets and demographics covered to prevent licence fee payer backlash.

Personally, I think it has more to do with the beeb being worried about 'X amount' of idiots ringing in and complaining about boxing being 'barbaric' and not worth the licence fee. There must be some sort of list with things that they are not prepared to show in order to keep Mrs Smith and her goons at the retirement home happy. There must be as it makes no sense. Unfortunately, IMO, I'm sure there is more to it all than the beeb just being a rotten spoiler:think.

It is complete double standards - what with them showing horse trials, which is, statistically far more dangerous.

They could put a community positive spin on boxing as well if they wanted. In addition to the fights they could have training features (physical as well as boxing) etc, highlighting all the good tha disciplined boxing training (or any physical training for that matter) can do. That can only be good for a nation with fat kids. And there are plenty of examples of properly run boxing clubs taking yob kids off the street and teaching them discipline and focus.

If it was on BBC on a saturday night people would watch.

'They' use the argument of intent when putting boxing down. Plenty of sports are more dangerous than boxing but they don't have the intent to injure as part of the process of winning that boxing does.

(Not my argument I hasten to add!!!)

why the **** should BBC not show it i bet if you looked at the viewing figures and demand boxing would be near the top.

IMO every few years every TV license holder should get a form and asked what sports they like and the BBC do it according to that.

As who the **** watches Cricket

That's a very good suggestion, Pater. In fact, I am going to look deeper into that as it makes complete sense. They should have an annual national customer (because that's what we are) feedback form.

Unfortunately, you've ruined what was a very good comment by putting cricket down:-(. That said, Pater- the beeb doesn't show cricket- it's only on the radio:good.

its a great idea from me as always.

it makes sense though how do they know what the majority wants, they dont!

    Honestly the British Broadcasting Service

only England listens/watches cricket so theres no need for it

as for horse ****ing trials what the ****!

boxing is way more popular what sport next they going to show Special Needs Curling.

idiots i should be in charge of the sport

people want football, boxing, cricket and the olympic stuff. who the hell watches horse trials that aint even a sport its about horses for god sake not even people. any ******* can sit on a horse for **** sake.

    dickheads the Beeb are

    rant over

im off to watch some fights

Haha - cricket isn't big in scotland though. I come from scotland and never understood cricket. i moved to bristol in my early twenties and used to go up the county ground on a sunday to watch somerset, only because my flat mates were going. I ended up liking it and it is a bloody good day out. It's a bit like sitting in a beer garden all day, but with a game to watch as well.

The BBC should be looking into doing things like these surveys as they are in danger of licence money going to other stations because they don't pu on what the public want. If ITV got a share of the licence money i bet they would put boxing on.

This is what people don't realise- it's an awesome way to chill out. I can chillax and just watch club cricket as well if I end up near a game somewhere. As for Bristol, it's just ****ing amazing, isn't it?!

Anyway, we've gone off the point (how unusual), the beeb need to take notice. As myself and others said a few pages back, if all of the campaigns we all currently have out there can be tied together somehow and the BBC is made aware of how much of a demand is out there for boxing then hopefully it might lead somewhere. Let's be fair, they had egg on their face after the olympics after the boys were the second most successful GB team of the 2008 olympics- bearing in mind that prior to the olympics they hardly had any build-up coverage in comparison to the hyped diver and everyone else:-(.

They should listen but it will take a big load voice to make it happen. They alsogot their fingers burned by giving Audley a stupid deal and him turning out to be nowhere near as good as he possibly could have been. They contributed to it by giving him a 10 fight deal or whatever it was but i definitely think this has had an impact on their stance.

Oh, and bristol is great. I used to drink in the Colluseum - not everyones cup of tea but i thought it was a great pub, and it was about 10 yards from where i lived!
