They arn't perfect rankings but if you go through the WBC/ WBA/ IBF rankings there are even more "headscratchers" in there....;O)

 

I dont think Hatton could walk through Cotto's power.

I will concede Tszyu was "officially" but I remember boxing fans/writers opinion at the time the big name in 2005-2006 was Cotto. "Zoo" had 4 fights in 4 years by the time he fought Hatton.

 

I agree their rankings are a bit random. One week before fighting Abraham, Wayne Elcock entered the MW rankings at no.10, then he lost and was dropped.

Overall, they're doing a decent job but they're P4P rankings are an absolute joke atm.

 

This should be another thread but Cotto at 140 was vulnerable and he's always had problems with stamina. Let's remember 'prime' 140 Hatton was quite a handful, he'd be make Cotto work every round and not giving him any time or space to take a breather.

Would have been a great fight.

 

I find p4p impossible though. It should just be dropped.

 

It's all quite subjective and people get too worked up about it but I don't mind a top 10 ranking. Once you start doing top 25 or something it's a bit too much.

The Ring have being doing a terrible job though - Caballero in the top 10, Pong in the top 10, had Donaire up at 4 or something.

 

The top four are about right...... maybe Marquez above Martinez might be better.

Wlad is too low at 8.

 

I think Martinez at #3 is fine, and rating Wlad higher I guess depends on how you define a P4P list. Personally, I think 7-8 is about right. Numbers 5-7 (Donaire, Pong, Montiel) on the Ring's list are the most confusing picks IMO.

 

I have never been the biggest Hatton fan but I think he takes Cotto. The style to beat Hatton needs speed and Cotto isnt super fast. The style to beat Cotto is relentless agression which hatton jas

 

Fair enough, thats your opinion. I don't have a "problem" with that. Its stuff like the bit below where you are way off the mark in your thinking.

Cotto being a "big name" doesn't mean Zoo wasn't champion and that Cotto, who was only really at the prospect stage, had the WBO title, hadn't fought anyone even approaching Zoos level, takes his place.!! Thats not how boxing works, its not X-Factor!!!

Cottos popularity with boxing fans and writers (or Zoos activity) doesn't make a blind bit of difference when you are questioning whether Zoo/ Hattons title is genuine in 2005/2006.

Hatton beat the champion, and most peoples number 1 at 140, in 2005. He was THE champion at 140. Cotto has absolutely nothing to do with the entire issue of whether Hattons title was the genuine one.

Theres a fair few debatable things about Hattons career but the fact he was the genuine champion at 140 isn't one of them. Even his biggest critics on here give him that!!

Forget about Cotto when questioning Hattons 140lb title. Theres no argument there at all.

Bob Fitzsimmons was not only a three wt world champ he was also the first man to achieve it, Middle (1891) Heavy (1897) Lt-heavy (1903) as well as being only one of 4 men to be 'undisputed' champ in three wt's.

 

P4P - Best fighters regardless of weight class. Simples

Cotto has never been the man in any division he has fought in.

On the other hand, Hatton isn't really a 2-weight champion because Collazo won/held a regular title when there was a super title and champion.

 

He held a legitimate World Title but calling him "the man" or "lineal" pre Mayweather is stretching it in my opinion. OK on paper Tszyu was "the man" but from 2004 and 2006 Cotto was beating the top 140 opposition Bailey, Corley, undefeated Torres, undefeated Malignaggi. Hardly prospect "WBO" stuff. Tszyu had 4 fights in 4 years against questionable opposition.

In my humble opinion Hatton held a title but was never "the man", so to say.
