As far as I can tell it counts for a season which is about August 2008 - July 2009, Hence Prescott being nominated. It was quite cool when Askew got announced as a winner, because I was sitting at the same table as him.
Why on earth would he be ???? Nice to see Wilde getting his credit too :good Overseas boxer of the year - Martinez :rofl I take it this 'overseas thing' only applies to overseas boxers who have fought in the UK ???
It is for the best performance of an overseas boxer in a British ring. The Dennie Mancini award is to do with the Commonwelath Boxing Council. I'm not sure exactly what the criteria is but Khan won it as he is a former Commonwealth Champion
Martinez would probably be a fair shout. Pascal would be as well, even though he lost to Froch. Who are the previous winners?
Quick point of note is that Froch wasn't there to accept his award so we got a vidoe of him getting it earlier as well as one with him and Pascal together getting the contest of the year award, both videos being filmed in the same session. Also Martinez was not there so Dean Powell accepted on his behalf. A descendant of Jimmy Wilde (possibly grandson or great grandson) accepted his award, which was presented by Haye.
Did anyone collect an award themselves Beeston yeah thats fair enough. I thought it must have had something to do with a fighter having fought in the UK.
